I rode the Big Bad Wolf a long time ago and came off pretty underwhelmed. While the Rhine River drop was just as fantastic as advertised, I found the rest of the ride overrated. I did not really feel the swinging and a majority of the course seemed slow. Fortunately, Vortex showed me what these Arrow suspended coasters are capable of since they are a dying breed. After descending down the first drop, the train absolutely flies through the course. The first turn over the station swings the train nearly parallel with the ground and showed me what these suspended coasters can do. But the Vortex does not let up there and continues a relentless journey around the lake jam-packed with swinging. While the coaster is short, it is intense and does not let up. Plus, the entire ride is perfectly smooth except for one or two spots.

I have always loved this coaster. From riding it during it’s debut season in 1991, this suspended Arrow smokes Big Bad Wolf in every way except theming (Iron “Draggin” at CP doesn’t even fall into the same class as these two ride.)

All four rides I took (one at night in the near pitch black) were in the front seat, the only real way to enjoy Vortex in my opinion.

The first drop isn’t particularly dramatic (BBW’s drop over the Rhine wins that one), but what makes this ride great is the use of terrain.

After the first high turnaround, it continues to build up speed until it swings over the pond at the bottom of the hill and climbs back up, slamming and swinging into the brake run with such force the entire structure shakes. In the end it seems a bit short, making you want more. But brother, this ride never lets up.

A very overlooked and underrated ride in my opinion; this is a coaster not to be missed. In an odd twist, this is the only coaster I have ever been on that the station rules are to take all of your possessions (including backpacks) on the ride; nothing may be left in the station. Ever.

I give this ride a five for what it is - not the best steel coaster, but perhaps the best suspended coaster still in existance.

Overall, I was a little disappointed by Vortex. I can't say it's a great ride: it is a super fun experience, but it falls flat in some areas, because of which I'd judge the coaster being a 3.75 (4 would be too much, 3 not enough (sharpen the rating system TPC!!!).. )

It delivered on intensity: for the most part, the pace is relentless and the layout is filled with sharp G force-filled turns. I also thought the landscaping was VERY exciting. I loved climbing over the mountain and dropping from it and then gliding over the lake. It did deliver a pretty amazingly fast experience. Oh, and except for some little bumps here and there, I thought it was rather smooth.

But overall, when the train hit the final brakes, I wasn't feeling satisfied all that much. Much of the time, I didn't feel like the cars were actually swinging side to side. To my opinion, except for the big turn over the station after the first drop, the swinging was hard to feel or care about. To me it just felt like an invert, period. I also thought the ride was incredibly short! When I realised the final brakes were dead ahead, I was extremely surprised, badly surprised, mainly because it had been too short, obviously, but also because that the finale just lacked the spice the rest of the ride delivered. It just isn't a memorable way to end the ride: it feels like after the helix over the lake, the track ahead's purpose is more to get you to the end rather than thrilling you. This way, the last thing you remember from the ride is something lackluster.

So, I generally liked Vortex. It deserves much credit for being unique, beauthiful, fast and mostly intense, but it's painfully short, ends very badly and it doesn't feel like a real swinging coaster.

Agree or disagree with my thoughts?

Great first drop. Great airtime. Great location. Greatest coaster in all Wonderland.

I&#39.m not a big fan of suspended coasters but this is one of only 3 that I enjoyed (Big Bad Wolf and Vampire being the others). The reasons I enjoyed it were both the setting and the fact that you could actually feel the swinging action of the cars.

Date Ridden: Summer of 2008. Times Ridden: 1 Vortex is a suspended coaster (some people call them &quot..basket rides&quot..) in the far, far north. It is among the top coasters at CW and ranks second to the Big Bad Wolf at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg among suspended coasters. It offers an enjoyable climb up the top of the signature mountain in the middles of the park, a great first drop, and lots of speed and swinging which is what a good suspended coaster does. The line is normally backed up out of the que but does move very quickly. A full que seems to be about a 30-45 minute wait which is not bad. The ride itself seems to be well maintained and the station crew does a wonderful job of hurrying people on and off. There are no signature or stand-out moments on the ride but there is nothing that bad either. Despite its location at one of my most despised parks, Vortex is the perfect example of the average coaster. It does not offer an outstanding ride, but does not offer a horrible experience either. It is not a fast ride but is not slow either. I was not really comfortable in the trains, but was not really uncomfortable. Everything it is designed to do, Vortex does and for that it should be commended. I enjoyed my single ride on Vortex but do not plan to visit again anytime soon. CW in general suffers from horrible park operations, poor customer service and massive amounts of people. Visit the park at your own risk but if you do, take a spin on this ride. It is one of the only decent rides at the entire park.Overall Rating - 7

Really fun ride in the front seat at night, but a bit more rough and normal in the back. I honestly can&#39.t remember too much about this ride, because I got about 50 total rides at Wonderland, and just two were on Vortex, but I like suspended coasters overall and this was quality. Right now I have it ranked a bit higher than Big Bad Wolf, but I really need to ride BBW again to be sure. I liked that it didn&#39.t stop halfway through like BBW, but Vortex also felt a bit shorter. By far the second best coaster at Wonderland.

Best suspended coaster Ive been on, just narrowly beating out the Big Bad Wolf. That mountain looks great and the ride interacts wonderfully with it, including making the ride appear taller than it actually was. I was really anticipating my ride and it didnt disappoint. The first drop wasnt nearly as frightening as Wolfs, but it still excellent thanks to some air in the back. Following that were many insanely fast twists and helixes that had great swinging. I especially loved the final helix since I felt as if the train was parallel with the water. There is one complaint about this that I have though, its over way too quickly. Still, as of now, this is my favorite coaster in the park, but that probably will change when I return this summer.

Excellent suspended coaster thats my favorite one out there. The mountain worked very well with the ride and the first drop was quite big and very thrilling (I even got a little air in the back). Also, the helix over the water was fast and fun providing some good Gs and there was pretty good swinging throughout. Only negative was that the ride is on the short side.

APPEARANCE-9 Fantastic with how it works around the mountain and the surrounding areas. Behind only BBW as far as suspendeds go. CAPACITY-8 Nice loading and unloading line went pretty quick. RIDE QUALITY-7 Looked better than it actually was. Seemed shorter than it looked. Overall these are not a favorite of mine. FUN-5 Didnt do it for me. Between uncomfortable seating and an undesirable coaster type lefting me wanting more. RERIDE-5 Would like to try again, but another take it or leave it at CW. OVERALL-34 AVG-6.8 I will say 7 until a reride happens.
