They remodeled it and made it more fun. It's not like Haunted Mansion at Disney but you don't expect that. The cars are great and have some effects themselves during the ride.
I enjoyed Zombie Castle'.s slightly stupid, barely-there plot and all of the effects. It'.s pretty cute and fun to laugh about. It'.s not bad!
I was satisfied with Zombie Castle, and thought it was a pretty good haunted house. Not quite up to Knoebel's level, but better than the one at Trimpers. Most of the spoofs were good, and the highlight of the ride was the loud and unique electrical room. Not sure where all the grumbles come from, as I usually never give something with a 5.5 rating anywhere near an 8!
this was a nicely desiged track but the cheep affects and way to loud sound effects bring this one down
I enjoyed this dark ride allot. Its an older ride which has been upgraded. The upgrades brought in many animatronics that woudl be found in a walk through haunted house.
The high point in this ride were the Characters were really good. They were actually gruesome. there is blood and violence. A dark Dark ride.It help it stand out from the timid dark rides you see at most parks today.
The cars were my Favorite thing. Finely crafter wood ride vehicles. It was something I have never seen before an a pleasant change form fiberglass.
The ending was very enjoyable.
The only big down fall is the Animatronics are off the rack Haunted house props you may have seen before. It was also overly laud. The inside could ahve used a bit more theming also.
APPEARANCE: Zombie Castle looked great from the outside as the facade looked much better than the standard carnival fun house. Also, the cars were very nice as they were wooden, as opposed to the traditional fiberglass cars.
WAIT TIME: Walk On- I have never seen a line for this at all so it therefore is a walk on. The operator dispatches the vehicles pretty quickly which is certainly nice.
RIDE: Zombie Castle was lackluster to say the least. I found the rides props and scenes to be almost identical to the ones used at a haunted house at a local carnival, which certainly arent very good (they are just bloody people and monsters lacking variety). Also, the scenes timing was way off when I have ridden this as the scenes triggered a few seconds too early and ruined the scenes effect. Zombie Castle also was overly loud in my opinion.
FINAL VERDICT: Though its nice to ride a dark ride, this is a poor example of one in my opinion. The already poor stunts combined with horrible timing completely ruined my experience on this. Fans of dark rides should certainly give this a shot, but just dont expect too much.
Zombie Castle is a great dark ride
I did enjoy the recurring jester character. The effects were good and I liked the way they made the car rock and vibrate in two seperate spots.
edited:6/25/07: I enjoyed it much better this year, dont know exactly what changed from a couple of years ago. The sounds of the Zombie saying "Yum Yum Yum Yum, Im done" is still making me laugh.
When I think that Playland even bothers to keep this around when they have the glory of their Old Mill just a walk away, Im a little surprised. Now, the ride isnt horrible - just in need of some upgrading. Its a pretty typical dark ride, on the level of a Dantes Inferno...which is fun, but they could definitely make it much better. If so, Ill raise my rating, but until then...
I will say the same thing as I said about the Flyin Witch...
High marks... why?
1. It is one of a dying breed... dark rides that are meant to scare, not be PC or cute
2. All of the stunts worked
3. it was a long ride
4. all of the stunts were in good condition
Dropped it down to a 3. More gorey than scary.
