Although shadowed by the yeti in Expedition Everest over at Animal Kingdom I felt that I really enjoyed the yeti's appearence and felt it was good that I didnt fly past him at 1000 MPH like in expedition everst. I got more of a good look at this one. The ride was very enjoyable too especially the splash down. Definately not to be missed...
Another Disney classic. I thought is ride was fun and funny. I loved the little Yeti on the ride. The ride its self has some good speed and has a little thill factor. I would say this is a great family ride.
I expected a more thrilling ride before I got on, but then I remembered that it was built in the 50s and is no exped. everest. However, I cannot complain about this ride. The first steel tubular track coaster ever, and it is a classic. Its a nice, smooth ride (considering its age), and the theming fits very well. Overall I enjoyed the ride experience. Although I wouldnt be anxious to ride again, its cool to have ridden it at least once and be a part of roller coaster history.
7/10 for a historic classic
I was pleasantly surprised by the Matterhorn Bobsleds. The ride was fun, fairly long, and considerably comfortable especially with it being so old. The theming is obviously dated, though it probably fits the ride better than a million dollar yeti animatronic would anyways. The tunnels that the ride boars through the mountain are pretty tight, and Im a sucker for bobsled style seating. Combining good pacing with lots of sudden movement and thrills and I think Matterhorn is a classic in all regards that should continue to thrill generations to come. What a great start to tubular steel track.
The Matterhorn Bobsleds was a big coaster for the entire industry, and it still delivers a great ride. The mountain looks great and the effects during the ride seem a bit dated, but still do make the ride more exciting. However, the ride was pretty slow for the most part and the helixes had no forces at all and there werent any really good drops in my opinion. The ride was pretty long though and the water splash was certainly my favorite part. Unfortunately the ride has gotten pretty rough over the years.
Good: a pretty wide variety of terrain (steep-seeming lift hill in the dark, ice caves, a bridge, even a minor splashdown at the end), plus some swell sharp turns, and who doesnt love an abominable snowman? Bad: Layout doesnt quite deliver as much as Id hoped, the spiraling turns and dips are less impressive than, say Thunder Mountain RR. And the worlds first steel coaster is showing its age - it rattles you like a poorly maintained woodie (and not in a good way). One of the few disappointments at DL.
I tip my hat to this classic. I waited 3 hours to ride it and was not disappointed. It is a must ride for any coaster fan.
This is a fun ride: it has a decent speed and it gives you a bit of a thrill. Its a little rough, though.
A classic! The bobsleds are a must do to complete an excellent day at Disneyland. You have to enjoy the history and prestige of this truely Disney ride.
You cant really go wrong with this oldie but goody, just for the fact of its history (both ride wise and for me personally, as youll read later) and its not too bad of a ride really. The speed of the ride really depends on how much weight your bobsled has on it. It has that classic Disney theming with the snow monster and the ice, waterfall and the mountain (obviously) and a couple of dips and some tunnel action. I remember many years back this was the FIRST ROLLER COASTER I ever road. After being a pansy (I was little what can I say) I remember feeling its time for me to be a big boy and one evening I went on it with my Dad. I stood in line while two teens from Canada talked to me about wrestler Bret Hart and kept my fears in the background. If I had been older I probably would have hit on them, oh well. But I finally got on the ride and I remember being cold, as it was a chilly evening in winter and the rise itself has the water and all. In the end though I was enthralled on the ride and felt like something new had been born in me. It had, coaster fever. Long live the matterhorn! check out this video I took of the ride...
