Big Thunder Mountain is a great ride and I do love it... When it is not broken down. That is its main issue.
Date Ridden: Once about 10 years ago and once in October of 2007. Times RIdden: 2 Im sure there are some minor differences in this ride from the one I just rode a few days ago in Florida, however they are small enough not to change the ride experience one has. With Disney you know you are getting a great family oriented ride with unbelievable capacity and outstanding themeing. Big Thunder Mountain Ralroad has all of those things, gives a smooth ride, and looks outstanding. As a mine train, it gets the standard 6 from me with the attention to detail bumping it up a point. Its a wonderful ride.
Best mine train coaster out there and its better than the one in Orlando. The mountain looks incredible and the ride certainly works well with the mountain. The ride was really long and there were many helixes, especially one that piled on some strong Gs and a few decent and sudden drops. Also, there were a lot of tunnels during the ride and the water splash was cool as well.
Well themed as RR cars going through a southwestern kind of landscape, the ride sure looks nice, and the frequent caves you go through are a nice touch. It rides well, too. It has no less than 3 (!) small lift hills. The best part is in the middle, right after hill #2, when theres an ultra-tight helix followed by a dip that delivers some major pop. Fans of wooden coasters will probably dig this.
One of my favorite mine train rides. It is fun for all ages.
Just like Disneyworld, but still very fun. It is pretty fun.
One of the best at Disneyland.
This ride is superb with a minor difference compared to the one at DisneyWorld. One in fact that the layout is actually reforced. Instead of the goat"s" being on the left side at DisneyWorld, it is on the right side over there. This ride is so fun, and you just want to go on it again and again. I wish Six Flags had one of these rides. It wouldnt have to be themed just like it, but close enough. Both of these are similiar, and thus I like that. They are both number 7 on my top 10 list.
Though some may not agree, I would argue that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is probably the tamest of the three Disneyland coasters (not including the Go-Coaster in Toontown). However, that does not mean that it is tame. The ride simulates a runaway mine train careening through a Wild West desert mountain, with several little bunny hop hills and lots of spiraling turns. The theming is truly exceptional, with mining equipment everywhere, animals galore, caves and caverns, an earthquake, and the iconic dinosaur fossil at the end of the ride. I do rank Space Mountain and even the Matterhorn just ever-so-slightly higher than Big Thunder Mountain, as they are a little wilder, but it is a very close call. For the wildest ride here, sit in the back. Regardless, this is a perfect coaster for Disney, and should be a great overall experience for everyone.
