Date Ridden: Summer of 2008. Times Ridden: 2 with the best ride being in the very front seat for my riding partner&#39.s 100th coaster. What the heck is a &quot.Jo-Jo Roll&quot.?In preparing for our Summer of 2008 trip, I focused on a number of the newer rides as well as some of the more famous older ones. However, I did not pay much attention to what I thought was a small, compact floorless coaster located in Dorney Park and overshadowed by the likes of Talon, Steel Force and Voodoo. Hydra was that coaster.First, let&#39.s have a little history lesson. Years ago, Dorney Park had a wooden coaster named Hercules at the exact location in which Hydra now stands. Hercules was a wooden coaster known more for its roughness than anything else. Many coaster enthusiasts enjoyed it but it was a little uncomfortable for the average park goer based on ride reviews I have read. I never had the chance to ride it. The coaster was demolished and replaced with a coaster named after the creature that Hercules destroyed in the Greek myths: The Hyrda. Hence the name, Hydra - The Revenge. Now that we have the history lesson over, let&#39.s talk about the rides&#39. signature element: that Jo-Jo roll. The only way to understand it is to simply see it. To the best of my knowledge there is not another inversion like this in the world. Dropping out of the station into the slow moving inversion with the absolute best hang-time of any ride ever is a different experience. After that, the journey up the lift hill, the first drop, and the other inversions are taken with that typical B and M smoothness despite the compact lay-out of the ride. I liked Hyrda but the coaster still falls a little short of both Talon and Steel Force hence the lower rating. It is well above average and offers a unique experience for even the most seasoned coaster enthusiasts. Don&#39.t miss it when you visit Dorney Park. Overall Rating: 8

I was pleased to find a front-seat walk on at about 11 A.M. on a Sunday for this newish B&M model, but I wasnt pleased when this ride was down for most of the night during my only visit to Dorney park. Because of the down-time, I only got in one ride and I dont remember a whole lot about it. Hydra was my first floorless, and a decent ride that exceeded my expectations. It is ranked near the bottom of the barrel for floorless coasters, and all the "forceless" complaints got me thinking that this would be a dud. Fortunitely it was smooth, well paced, with much more speed and intensity than I was expecting! The zero-G roll was one of the more memorable inversions, and the bunny hop provided a hint of airtime. The first drop is longer than I expected, because there is a small valley that it drops into. Again, I only got one ride on this thing, but I liked what I got. I would ride again, and should have a better opinio n on it with more floorless coasters under my belt next time I go to Dorney Park.

Hydra was a great floorless coaster despite being smaller than many others. The jo-jo roll out of the station was incredible and gave some great hang-time. Also, the first drop was very steep and gave some amazing air time in the back. The inclined loop was pretty weak, but the two zero-G rolls were great as always and had some great hang-time. The cobra roll was just decent and the finale had some good Gs as well, especially during the sudden drop and helix.

What the hell! I expected so much from this floorless machine after riding Medusa. I mean, I guess its alright, it has the only inversion right out of the station, the drop is ok, and the inversions the same. But Im still not amused. The train travels so slowly when compared to superior B&M gems, I was so surprised! Because of this, the inversions arent intense enough, and you still receive some ear banging in some parts. So overall, Im glad to say that this ride is kind of a disgrace to the state of Pennsylvania. I really wish they didnt need to tear down Hercules, because that ride sounds so cool despite the reviews. At least Dorney used to have two woodies until this piece of metal was built. I really, to tell you the truth, wouldnt recommend this ride to first timers, so skip it and dont waste your valuable time.

WTF is up with the 8.0 average? This is easily the best coaster in PA and should be at the top of the state list. The inversion before the lift is genious. I even like it better than Medusa, and (dare i say) The Hulk!! If Dorney Park could expand and put in more great coasters like this, it could quite possibly be an eastern gem. Not enough coasters yet though.

Hydra the Revenge was my first floorless coaster, and I absolutley loved it. The inital jojo roll provides a great weightless sensation, and it can be a little frightening for first time riders as you literally dangle from your seat. The first drop down the hill is fantastic and is quite and fast. From then on, the ride just throws the elements at you, one after another. The pacing is fantastic, and the ride NEVER lets up. I cant even point out my favorite element, because they were all equally awesome and intense. While riding in the front seat on Hydra is simply the best, the other seats on the ride are great as well, unlike on an inverted coaster. Seating on an end in any row provides for a fantastic ride with the forces and laterals being applied much higher. Hydra may be a smaller looking ride, but its sheer intensity and pacing make it one of the best that Ive been on. It reminded me of another one of my favorites, Raptor at Cedar Point, because of how relentless it is. This is definitely a must-ride!

Very good ride. I always love a coaster with a story behind it, like Phantoms Revenge. Definitely got 7 good inversions into a very tight space, I love the "change collector" in the start of the ride. Very smooth, all around great ride.

Although I put in more rides on Hydra I would say this is my second favorite coaster at the park, behind Talon. APPEARANCE-9 I liked the colors and the coaster still looks to be in great shape. the area around it is pretty boring and has a typical Cedar Fair look. CAPACITY-10 Like most things CF this loads quick, it has two trains and does a good job of getting you through the line so you can spend the rest of your day waiting for the wild mouse. RIDE QUALITY-9 Very smooth has some really nice elements and I thought the drop was really good for being so much smaller then most new coasters. I enjoyed all three rides. FUN-8 Everything was very good yet I just had a weird feeling that it should be more fun. Its hard to explain I really liked it, but a couple other coasters there were not as good, but offered more laughs. RERIDE-9 Since I got rerides this time I would actually reride several things first before this. Still it is almost a sure thing that this ride would get done again. OVERALL-45 AVG-9.0 A very solid nine experience on a coaster that I am not sure why more people dont seem to enjoy more. Certainly not in the worlds great catergory, but one of those rides that offers a little something for everyone.

The best ride at dorney for me. I love the jojo role at the start before the lift hill. The first drop is really good.I guess that I really just enjoy floorless coasters. Hydra is right behide Raging Bull and the Dominator for me.
