Although The Comet does not look too daunting as you approach the ride, it packs an unexpected punch. When you see little kids with their fathers step off the ride laughing, you don’t really expect anything too intense. Luckily, Herbert Paul Schmeck created a ride that suits all ages. The drops are better than average, giving you some of that craved sinking feeling in the stomach. What surprised me most about this ride though were its many spurts of airtime. As the train crests every hill, you’ll be coming out of your seat. Although the amount of negative G’s pales in comparison to some other coasters found around the country, it still creates a fun and pleasurable experience. Lines do get a bit lengthy for The Comet though because everyone enjoys it and it is in the front of Hersheypark.

What a great little woodie! Pretty much all of the drops provide some nice airtime and the visuals of plummeting towards water were great. My only complaint is pertaining to the trims, which pretty much kill the chances of airtime on the second half of the ride, but certainly do not kill the fun. Maybe I took on an attachment to this ride because of its resemblance to the Kennywoodies, but whatever the reason, this is now one of my favorite wooden coasters.

I loved this coaster. Air was plentiful throughout and the setting was beautiful. I really wish I could have gotten some more rides on it when I went to Hershey -- I only went on it once. Hopefully Ill be back to ride it again. But either way, a classic that is good in thrills and decently long.

Comet is a great classic, but would be better if it went faster through the bunny hills.

I enjoyed yet another Schmeck in Eastern Pennsylvania. Comet was a complete coaster. It wasnt big in many things, but it had a heart and something for everybody. First, I thought the ride was pretty smooth, even for a 50+ year old coaster. The trains were comfortable, and the ride didnt bounce me too much. The first drop, though not spectacular in height and speed, stands strong among other woodies. The hills of the L-shaped out and back were all pretty good, with decent air and a great setting near the river yet hidden, somehow, from the hustle of the entry area. The ride was nestled between trees, adding another cool aspect, and was fairly hidden from unsuspecting riders. Though a bit of it is in typical Hershey fashion, it is about the only coaster that is still hidden, so that counted for quite a bit. Comet was certainly a suprise. The hills were cool, but in the end you get a fun, classic ride worthy of your time (which, kinda sadly, everyone seems to agree and the line was among the longest in the park during my visit.)

This is one of the smoothest woodies that I have ridden probably only second to Lightning racers.
I have no complaints for this ride. Its a classic. Also, the ride looks good. Maybe its just me, but I think that the comet is one of the best looking rides anywhere. The trains are comfy, the air is decent, and the speed seems good for a coaster of its kind. Sure, It isnt the most thrilling, but it is surely a coaster that people will enjoy for a long time.

Nice little ride, but nothing too special. It has some airtime, but nothing about the ride is really remarkable. Theres nothing really bad about it either.

Great ride, but if they got rid of the trims by the 2nd turnaround, the airtime this coaster couldve provided wouldve made this a great competition for Knoebels Pheonix. Theyre both designed by Schmeck in the 1940s. The front seats not that great, but if you ride in the back seat, youll get some nice floater air on the first ride. A classic woody worth riding while at Hersheypark, but the lines for Comet can get kinda long. I recommend riding early in the morning or in the evening for shorter waiting periods & a better ride experience.

Pretty good. Wooden roller coasters are my favorite things in amusement parks, and this one was pretty average for me.

This was my first roller coaster. I was 7. It was very rough then and it still is. I ended up with a fat lip when I got off because I bashed my face on the bar. (Just for the record I didnt cry! LOL) Anyway, the ride is nothing special, but just a good classic wooden coaster that I hope stays around for a while. The drop is nothing spectacular, a few turns are nice, and the last half of the ride is slow and kind of boring, but a good wooden coaster. It stays on my TOP 10 just for nostalgic purposes, however Wildcat, Lightning Racer and Twister at Knoebels are much better.
