The Wild Cat was my first coaster so maybe I'm partial to it, but it's not so bad. The drop from the last car is always good ejector air time and the second turn around still almost throws you right out every time. As long as you don't sit over an axle (aka the back seat of any one car) then you'll enjoy your ride on the Wild Cat. The ride throws you around a lot and is needlessly jerky in weird spots, but that's what makes it a fun ride and live up to it's name!
A mildly thrilling ride, although many members of my party found it too jerky, even ridiculously so. In my opinion, although it was certainly inordinately jerky, the jerkiness is only in patches (albeit ones you might not expect to be typically jerky) and certainly manageable/tolerable. In the end, a fun ride.
A very disappointing coaster. While it was beautiful from the entrance, views of the ride from the queue indicated otherwise, as the paint was really fading and the track looked miserable. As for the actual coaster, the first drop is okay but the rest is slow and rough in the spots that shouldn't be.
Bumpy. Jerky. Painful. Sketchy. If it weren't for the awesome stomach-churning first drop, skip this ride. If you want a smooth ride, sit in the middle row in one of the cars since that row doesn't have an axle under it. Otherwise, brace yourself for random laterals and pain. (NOTE: The fact that you can hear the train falling apart adds to the thrill)
I can'.t believe the Wild Cat is getting a rating below the sucky Sawmill Plunge (which is a waste of waiting in line). Maybe I'.m nostalgic since I rode this as a kid in the early 70s and it was one of my first '.serious'. coasters, but it'.s still not bad with a decent first drop and some lateral whip-lashing (it'.s not smooth). I'.m surprised this 1927 coaster is still standing so I give it longevity points as well. It was our first ride the other day so it'.s a good warm-up, people were having fun, it'.s a classic and it'.s always been the focal point of Lake Compounce.
A fairly poor woodie. The location is great but the ride is awful. The trains are tiny and I have barely ever seen two operating at once. The location in the middle is fantastic and the ride is in good condition for being so old but I wish that LC invested in some longer trains.
Very poor wooden coaster. I love its location in the center of the park, but the ride was very slow throughout and therefore there was no air. The ride was very smooth though, but that was only because of the rides slow speed.
Very underrated ride. I mean, youre telling me that (currently) Music Express ranks higher than it? Horse****. Sure it may make you smack around a bit in the back seat, but thats good IMO. There isnt too much airtime, but what there is is great. I cant compare it to Boulder Dash, but its a good coaster.
This poor misunderstood roller coaster, hidden in the shadow of Boulder Dash. This year (2007) marks its 80th anniversary. To describe most other coasters people use words like: intense, fast, rough, etc. The Wildcat however I can only describe as "peppy". The Wildcat as a decent amount of speed for its little size. Not much on air time, but its there. This coaster does however have very good laterals, the best being on the second turn around. Over all the Wildcat is a nice little coaster, painted beautifully in all white, one train purple one red. Defiantly give it a try.
In my opinion, Lake Compounce falls short of having the wooden coaster 1-2 punch combination that Knoebels offers. While Knoebels offers two strong wooden coasters, LC has a very, very strong woodie and an average one. Wildcat, for its age, looks great. Its the centerpiece of the park and probably the first thing youll notice as you enter. To Lake Compounces credit its not old and rotting like a lot of woodies half its age. It also runs better than youd expect with a pretty steep first drop. Aside from the first drop though, the Wildcats ride is pretty average and not very memorable. Sure you get thrown around some but thats to be expected for a woodie of this age and style. And its never too intense or too rough. On the downside, the Wildcat only runs one train which is kind of annoying, but if youre at LC on a weekday like I was its worth maybe a 15 or 20 minute wait. Final Rating - 5.5 (Average-Approaching Slightly Above Average)
