This poor misunderstood roller coaster, hidden in the shadow of Boulder Dash. This year (2007) marks its 80th anniversary. To describe most other coasters people use words like: intense, fast, rough, etc. The Wildcat however I can only describe as "peppy". The Wildcat as a decent amount of speed for its little size. Not much on air time, but its there. This coaster does however have very good laterals, the best being on the second turn around. Over all the Wildcat is a nice little coaster, painted beautifully in all white, one train purple one red. Defiantly give it a try.

In my opinion, Lake Compounce falls short of having the wooden coaster 1-2 punch combination that Knoebels offers. While Knoebels offers two strong wooden coasters, LC has a very, very strong woodie and an average one. Wildcat, for its age, looks great. Its the centerpiece of the park and probably the first thing youll notice as you enter. To Lake Compounces credit its not old and rotting like a lot of woodies half its age. It also runs better than youd expect with a pretty steep first drop. Aside from the first drop though, the Wildcats ride is pretty average and not very memorable. Sure you get thrown around some but thats to be expected for a woodie of this age and style. And its never too intense or too rough. On the downside, the Wildcat only runs one train which is kind of annoying, but if youre at LC on a weekday like I was its worth maybe a 15 or 20 minute wait. Final Rating - 5.5 (Average-Approaching Slightly Above Average)

APPEARANCE-8 Still looks great for its age and being in the center of the park is a nice touch. CAPACITY-3 One train on a decently long ride means a very clow wait. It was also down several times while we were there. RIDE QUALITY-5 First half seemed solid second was very weak. Weird combo of very smooth with some pretty rough. FUN-5 Did not do much for me. Other then the god awful Predator this was the worst wood on the trip. RERIDE-5 Its wood so I have to try again, but that wait would not make it top priority. OVERALL-26 AVG-5.2 I will go five since I really wanted it to be better.

A classic woodie. It really is. you walk in and see it standing proudly as the centerpiece of the park. It gives some pretty good Gs and is a walk on.

Aaah, a classic Herb Schmeck woodie. I have now ridden a few of them this year and I have generally liked them, but this one struck me as lacking. The layout is nice, and the ride has some great dips, but between both of my rides I recieved little to no airtime. Airtime on wood is very important to me, and rarely can I overlook such a blatant absence. The ride is beautiful though, and the chasers lit up very well at night, but I cant provide the same great kudos for the ride itself. The ride was fairly smooth though, and the turns gave some pretty nice laterals. The first drop was a doozy too, and I like how it drops all the way to the ground. I of couse will still suggest it, and cant say that I didnt enjoy it, but I think a 7 will do. Perhaps this was better before Dinn the Devil restored it.

Now I'm not one to hate wooden coasters and usually I really like them. In fact, I hate to bash wooden coasters, especially ones as old as the Wildcat. However, the Wildcat is unfortunately deserving of a low rating due to the ride's far too numerous flaws and the lackluster ride it has provided time after time.

Well looking at the ride it looks great and it looks like it will give a great ride, but unfortunately that isn't so. But, I just love the ride's location in the center of the park and it really captures the classic and traditional feel of Lake Compounce. Lines generally aren't too long for this classic, but they are slow moving due to a frustrating one train operation. To add insult to injury, that one train only seats 18 people! Yikes!

Until I first rode this, I was expecting a good ride. However, once the ride began those expectations were shattered. Despite having an out-and-back layout with a ton of hills usually is a recipe for a ton of air, the ride is just totally devoid of air. Absolutely none can be found in any of the ride's seats, which is baffling and extremely disappointing, especially since they have another woodie that absolutely delivers killer air. The only forces that can be experienced at all are a few decent laterals, but other than those few laterals, the whole ride is just so slow and boring.

Despite the mediocre ride it provides, Wildcat is still worth a ride while at Lake Compounce due to its classic nature since while it's dull, it isn't really all that rough like others have said. It’s really a shame since the park undeniably has a world-class coaster in Boulder Dash, but lacks a great coaster to compliment it. Though a beautiful coaster to look at, the Wildcat doesn't ride nearly as well and just is an all-around dull ride experience.

This coaster will never be able to be as popular as its boulder dash counterpart but it is still a ride to go on. Being pretty much one of the oldest rides it still gives you air time especially in the back. The back gives you whiplash, while the front is smoother and more relaxing. This woodie is more of a starter to help you for BD but even then it cant give you the air time and go 65mph.

This coaster is mediocre. Having been built in the 1920s, I figured that the ride would be nostalgic and have great history. However, the ride has been redone and refurbished with new trains to the point where it has almost lost its historical value. Wildcats location in the park is pretty nice, as when you enter the park you see its lift hill rise above the little shops at the entrance gate. The coaster itself isnt anything too special, and I dont just say this because its old. I love the Coney Island Cyclone and Belmont Parks Giant Dipper, but this coaster doesnt stand a chance against the more famous ones of its time. The ride wasnt too rough except for the bottoms of the first few drops. There was a little bit or airtime on the last few bunny hills but the ride was pretty short. Not a big line, so its worth riding if you come to Lake Compounce, but this coaster is just a decent ride that doesnt have the historical value that I expected it would have.

I know it is hard to compete with Boulder Dash right around the corner, but I think this coaster is getting a bum rap. It may not look like much, but the rides that I got I thought were above average and very good. It does not have a great amount of airtime, is not smooth as glass and isnt overly intense, but it is still a good ride. I thought that it threw me around a little bit, and I like that kind of thing. It is hard to compete, but I think that this coaster standing alone would look pretty good in terms of ride quality. Put this in a park that does not have a top wooden coaster, and I think things would be different. It is better than what is portrayed. It is not a long ride, but it is still a better than average one for sure. I give it a 9, and will give Boulder Dash a 10 in that review. So you will probably say "Wow, you must be nuts. Only one point difference between to two of them?!" Well, Boulder Dash is beyond a 10 and Wildcat is no where near in its class, neighborhood, area code, state, country, continent, world or galaxy, but this is still a solid wooden coaster.

Meh - A pretty average wooden coaster. Nothing special. Wildcat is fun, but theres not much else to be said. It doesnt have any good airtime. Just speed and laterals. All of the lateral throws are to the left, so tenderfoots, stay right. Oh, yeah, by all means, avoid the axle seats. The axle seats are brutal. After a great first ride, I sat in the back axle seat. I was violently thrown around and slammed my thighs into the lap bar. It was quite painful, and made this coaster lose a couple of points. So... The Wildcat isnt a terrible coaster, it just isnt terribly exciting either. Ive had great rides on this and terrible rides on it. I guess its time for them to retrack... again? Oh, sorry adriahna. I couldnt think of a better word then "Meh" LOL
