Not the biggest or the fastest or the one with hugest drops, but truly a lot of fun.
A 1941 classic. This is an excellent ride. I was happy to see it is very much appreciated by the SFNE guests. I daresay, it seemed more popular than the Cyclone. A figure 8 coaster it executes its elements with near perfection. Only detraction was the screams for oil from the tracks as we rounded the turnarounds. A beauty. (One train running: 5 - 10 minute wait).
Its so cute and old. I love this ride and I probably always will. Worth the wait and very classic.
a little to rough but an obvious classic feel. The little ones ahead of me were having a blast. I remember being unplused and a little banged around.
The key word for this 1940 built woodie is "fun". Based on a design from a coaster at the 1939 New York Worlds Fair, Thunderbolt was never meant to be a "frightener", just a fun ride with surprising amounts of floater air time toward the end of the ride, especially on the last bunny hill. My only complaint is that Six Flags should get rid of the excessive restraints, namely seat dividers and seat belts. Thunderbolt could then be an "ACE" Coaster Classic once more, giving people the kind of ride I had on my first time back in the 70s.
P.S. Its interesting to note that the drop on Thunderbolt is about 45 degrees, the same as the ASCENT up the lift hill on the new Batman The Dark Knight. How things have changed since Thunderbolt was created!!!
A good coaster. It doesnt look all that great but the ride was surprisingly fun filled. Lets see how well it does now that it stands at a dreaded Six Flags park.
I was pleasently suprised when I rode this ride. I know its old, (and it definetly shows), but it was fun for such an old, small coaster. MUCH better than the Cyclone. I prefer rides that do not cause me pain. I love the double dip the most. Two trains running would be better.
I had mixed feelings about this ride. At first it looked pathetic, like the first ever roller coaster. While riding, I was so afraid of falling off; it was scary. It was like a death coaster. But it had great drops and everything and it was pretty fast. It made me want to ride it again.
Tame,
old wooden coaster, should be in the kiddie section of the park.
This is the first coaster I have ever gone on, and it has gotten me hooked. Of course, this will always be my truly favorite coaster, even though it may not be the fastest/tallest/steepest..etc. This is a sensational ride for such a small thing, and I always go on it first, and I make sure to grab the last ride for the night.
