This is my favorite coaster at knoebels. It provides great air time and it set nicely in the woods, but its a little rough for my liking.
Airtime, Airtime ,Airtime, Airtime, Airtime, Airtime, Airtime, Airtime, Airtime, Airtime, Airtime, Airtime - I say it 12 times because I counted that many instances, two times I thought I would fly right out of the car. I dont mind a rough woodie, but theres not much roughness here. Now my 2nd favorite woodie, behind the Cyclone.
The fact that this coaster was saved did enhance my ratings but I also believe it should. In this day in age of newer is always better this ride proves that our history, no matter if its rides or other things, is almost always worth saving. APPEARANCE-10 The ride still looks great after all these years. Of course it doesnt have the brand new look but having the wood the way it is, the station and the models and history before you enter all make it a nostalgic dream. Even the little ticket window makes it better. RIDE QUALITY-10 The airtime master. On my fifth ride I was able to count the times I got air. My dad and I both counted 12, this doesnt include the times when you hardly even sit down which should count as two instead of just one. I find it smooth for a woodie and the camelback or double hill about halfway through is the all time king. My wife was so far out of her seat she actually landed on the divider. CAPACITY-10 I have never had to wait more then five minutes but to be honest this rating will go down if I ever end up at Knoebels on a truly busy day. But since I havent a perfect ten it is. They do load and unload unbelievably fast. With two trains this thing would fly. Even at PPP this was still only a ten minute wait at most. FUN-10 Duh it is awesome. Plus it costs 1.80. They were charging like seven dollars to ride a spinning coaster at Steel Pier. How could you like rides and not love this thing. Like Shivering Timbers it has been just as fun everytime I ride it. RERIDE-10 Next time I go I will go on an all day ride pass. Its time I sample all the rides in the park and give myself a chance to ride the Phoenix till I drop. OVERALL-50 AVG 10 Just amazing. sometimes when Im having a bad day I just think about this ride and this park and I instantly feel better. Sure most rides are fun that is why they built them, but really how many rides or things in life can make you happy when you are not even there. If possible this thing is even better at night during PPP. Seeing the haunted cars and the fog machines along with the crisp Autumn air make for an even better ride.
I am compelled to give this one a ten - it is Perfection in airtime, the head out of the station is genius, and the speed is ideal. It doesnt surprise you quite like the Twister, but it makes up for it in droves - sheer, steep hills, jarring turns and a beautiful setting. And, of course, easily the best airtime Ive ever experienced on a coaster - kudos to Knoebels for not replacing their single lapbars with doubles. This coaster literally throws you out of your seat, and has you practically standing up on the final bunny hills. This is a perfect gem of a coaster, and definitely not to be missed.
The best woodie. Period. Actually I didnt think it would be too good but it was an airtime machine! I was floating above my seat for 4 seconds! Everything about this roller coaster is great!
The best wooden coaster ever made. Ultimate airtime on every single hill. Good laterals on the turns since theyre unbanked. They should put light and sound effects in the tunnel. That would be cool.
One of the best wooden coasters I have been on. The tunnel at the start of the ride makes it pitch dark and after that your going up the first hill. The bunny hops are the best ever! It actually feels like your flying. This is one amazing ride, I wonder if it got this much of attention in Texas? You have to ride this if at Knoebels! A+++
A great classic coaster with the most air of any ride I have ever been on anywhere! Its not to intense, but the drops are pretty good. Definately one of the best woodies in the country, maybe even the world. For sure a must ride at Knoebels!
When you first see the Phoenix, you dont see one of the worlds greatest airtime machines. Really, what does a 78 foot coaster have against airtime monsters like Magnum, Apollos Chariot, or S:RoS? A small, older woodie really cant compare to those. Or so you would think.
Filled with abrupt points of airtime, the Phoenix delievers in airtime, but not much else. There are laterals on the turn-around but it lacked Twisters intensity and out of control which is more of my type. Either way, the airtime makes this one mother of a coaster.
This ride is just one of the very many awesome rides at Knoebels, but the best rollercoaster there. Twister may be tall, but it doesnt have airtime. This coaster has it all. A double out and back beautie, this ride is BOMB!!!
