While not quite as good as the nearby Jokers Jinx, the Flight of Fear is a very fun coaster and one of the best rides in the park. The extra-terrestrial theming is pretty well done and definitely helps boost the suspense prior to boarding. Like most Premier coasters, this one begins with a decent launch, but it seemed pretty tame compared to the other launched coasters I have been on. But from here, the coaster takes off. The layout is pretty well hidden from view and probably does not contain a single piece of straight track. The cobra roll is smooth and very forceful, as is the subsequent sidewinder inversion. While a brake run saps a lot of the speed before the second half, the train manages to get a good amount of it back before flying through a very disorienting and intense corkscrew to finish off the coaster. Flight of Fear may not have the breakneck speeds of Kingda Ka or Top Thrill Dragster, but it still has plenty of tricks up its sleeve to make it a very good coaster.

Very fun launch coaster. The theming was good, especially the UFO and the darkness element worked really well for this coaster. I found the launch to be pretty darn good and the elements were very smooth and taken at a rapid fire pace. The inversions gave really good Gs on this one.

This is a well themed coaster, that feels faster than it is, since it is inside. I liked the Kings Island one a bit better. This version seemed a little rougher of a ride and it was better lit. I enjoy the feeling of not being able to anticipate what is coming next, so the lighting is a negative. A good coaster.

Edit- I rode Flight of Fear for the first time since 2004 on 9-17-2006, and for the first time as an enthusiest. To start off with, I noticed nothing different about the themeing, build-up, lighting or music of the ride. (It was rumored to have been upgraded) Again, I could be wrong, because I hadnt ridden it in so long. I loved the ride it self (and the themeing too for that matter). The launch feels MUCH faster and stronger than Jokers Jinx. The posted speed on RCDB is (I believe) a bit lower, but for whatever reason, this launch feels quite a bit better. The first few elements are ace. At this point, the train has good speed, you cant see where you are going, and it is very intense. It was hard for me to tell when I was upside down, even though I knew most of the layout. Then, the train naturally slows down (as it does on Jokers Jinx) about midway through the ride. After a few turns, the MCBR is hit, slowing the ride to a near stand-still. To be honest, the MCBR wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. The middle didnt seem all that much more dry than Jinxs, and Jinx lacks the block-breaks. Jinxs second half did feel better for some reason, but not by much. The last few turns before the corkscrew pick up great speed and intensity once again. Overall, the ride was much better than I remembered, and I like it a lot better than Jinxy.

Update: May 12, 2008. I like JJ better now. Dont really know why, I just do.

Totally awesome. Launched into darkness and you get the stomach churning feeling approximately 5 seconds after the launch. This is while in darkness too. Then I cant tell you what happens but I will say its very intense and fun. When I watch Jokers Jinx on video Im like "what? that looks boring". But Flight of Fears theme and setting makes it a fabulously fun coaster. Theline to the coaster is cool and nicely themed too which is good if you have to wait. It sucks so bad its not here anymore. Such an awesome one of a kind coaster experience.

I found this to be a very enjoyable launch coaster. This ride is very well themed and the spaceship is really cool! The launch out of the station is fun and fast (55mph). The ride is in the dark and full of inversions and twists and turns everywhere. The downfall of the ride is its jerkieness. Its a must ride at PKD.

The theme is cool. You walk into a hangar with strobe lights all over the place and theres a movie playing. Then you come into a UFC door with a nicely colored waiting area. The launch is awesome since its so unexpected and its right into the dark. From there, I cant tell you whats happening but feels I think it starts off with a big drop and then a corkscrew and some turns. Comes into a stop and then zooms. Ends when you see the light. Great themed ride, I read it was revolutionary during its time and the 2nd best ride here.

For Flight of Fear PKD took a stab at theming for a change. A considerable amount of theming. The station and ride itself are all enclosed in a building designed to be some kind of facility for government testing of a UFO, basically a fancy warehouse. Along the inside portions of the queue line there used to be a movie playing that sets the premise of the storyline for the ride back when it was "Outer Limits - Flight of Fear". Im pretty sure they dont show the video anymore since the name change. The line always seems pretty short now that its an older attraction and its worth the wait if youve never been on FoF or one of its clones. The ride is propelled by a, at the time it was introduced, revolutionary LIM launch system. It might be safe to say this coaster started the launch coaster genre. Instead of the traditional lift hill, the ride uses Linear Induction Motors basically magnets that propel the train down the track. The result, a rocket-ship like launch that rivals the adrenaline felt at the crest of the initial drop of traditional coasters. Waiting for the ensuing launch and then accelerating may be the high point of the ride. The ride leaves the station and heads to a tall cylindrical building where riders find a literally "tangled knot" of track including 30 vertical curves, 25 horizontal curves, four inversions, and oh yeah semi-darkness. (To see what this tangled mess looks like check out pics of Jokers Jinx at SFA). It wouldve been better if it was darker or they used some other type of theming like stars or something. It kind of sucks seeing that youre in a tall dark building, but for PKD some theming is better than no theming. Out of the inversions, the corkscrew on the way out is my favorite. Head banging on the shoulder harnesses used to be pretty heavy and made Flight of Fear almost unrideable guaranteeing riders headaches. Fortunately, PKD replaced the stiff shoulder harnesses with lap bars remedying the head banging. Most of the points here go to the launch, the immediate cobra roll, and the weird "Area 51"-esque theming, the majority of the ride is just ok, but at least now its rideable. At PKD this is a must ride. Final Rating - 7.5 (Good-Approaching Great)
