Cedar Downs Racing Derby is a carousel. It is average speed, fast, fun, rerideable, it has a large capacity, and a long duration.

I'm 13 years old and this ride was fun. It was quicker than a normal caurosel and alot more fun. There is never a long wait here. This ride is good for children and teens and some adults.

A fun, fun ride. As much as I unfortunately dislike carousels, I seem to love Derby Racers. Unfortunate there hundreds of traditional carousels in the world, and there seems to only be a handful of Derby Racers left. This season, I have had the pleasure of riding two of these unique rides, and while Cedar Point’s still has a classic feel and is good ole fashion fun, unlike most rides on &quot.Americas Rockin Roller Coast,&quot. it just wasn&#39.t the same as the one at Rye. I was not fearing for my life like I was on a warm, sweaty July day in New York. Alas, this fine old school ride lives on, surrounded by the concrete and modern &quot.mecca&quot. of an amusement park that Cedar Point so willingly claims to be. I can only hope this gem survives the powers that be at Cedar Point, and many generations of riders will be able to experience this classic for years to come.

Occasionally while traveling to different parks a ride just jumps out to me, if for no other reason than being wonderfully unique. Cedar Downs Racing Derby exemplifies that perfectly, as it is an incredibly fun flat ride that you simply cannot miss when traveling to the Point. Upon first glance, it can be easy to gloss over this as just another carousel, as I made that very mistake the first time I went and did not ride it. But once you sit and really watch it, you quickly discover that this is no ordinary carousel at all. The first time I went on this, I couldnt stop laughing, as I was just having a blast racing with 3 others in our "row". The setup is similar to a carousel, although each row of 4 horses moves back and forth throughout the course of the ride, giving a really cool racing effect. Also, the rides speed is a great surprise, as the ride moves way faster than a regular carousel. I have so many fantastic memories on this ride, from racing with friends and having a ball, to taking my fiancee on this last year and watching her laugh and have a great time as our horses battled it out! This ride is just infectious, and one ride on it is never enough during a visit - a sign of a highly enjoyable flat ride. The cycle is rather long too, which is another bonus. You just cant go wrong with Cedar Downs, as it is a tremendous flat/carousel with impressive speed, the rare racing element, and a dose of fun you would be hard-pressed to duplicate on many other flats. I applaud Cedar Point for keeping this ride in fine shape and taking care of it, as it is a hidden gem that brings a smile to my face just thinking about it. Saddle up on Cedar Downs, and just enjoy a ride that tries to do nothing else but be great FUN - and it succeeds!

This is a great ride that shouldnt be missed. Its a very rare and classic derby racer and its maintained very well as each and every horse looks great. While slower than the one at Rye, this one has the racing effect which was very cool. This one also had a slower cycle than the one at Rye and was also a tad bit jerky like the one at Rye.

Very unique ride. I have never seen another one like it. Not your normal carousel.

A fun carousel. I rode it twice during the day and at night. They cranked up the speed at night.

This is a wonderful and unique park attraction that is in fine condition. It has a sister attraction "The Derby Racer" at Playland in Rye, New York. Although, the Cedar Point version runs MUCH slower than "The Derby Racer," the Ceder Point version has a leg up because the "racing" feature still works that allows you to simulate that you are competing against the other horses in your row. As I state in my review of "The Derby Racer," it is worth a special trip to Cedar Point and to Playland just to ride these rides. Perhaps Cedar Point should run the ride at slow speed during the day (as a family ride) and then at full speed at night (as a thrill ride). Here is MY top 10 carousels list: (1) Cedar Downs Racing Derby -- Cedar Point (2) Derby Racer -- Rye (NY) Playland (3) Carousel -- Rye (NY) Playland (4) Carousel -- Palisades Center Mall (West Nyack, NY) (5) Carousel -- Lake Compounce (Bristol, CT) (6) Carousel -- Flushing Meadows Park (Queens, NY) (7) Carousel -- Central Park, NY (8) Carousel -- Trimpers Amusements (Ocean City, MD) (9) Grand Carousel -- Columbus (OH) Zoo (10) Savage Gallopers Carousel -- Six Flags Great Adventure (Jackson, NJ).
