I've been in quite a few wood coasters both east and west coast. I grew up on the Boulder Dash, I lived in Bristol so I thought I was just partial to BD for this reason, but I was wrong. To this day every time I ride another wood coaster I wish I was on BD. Also if I haven't ridden it since 08 you're in for a real treat too, because they added MORE air time in place in the less exciting stretch of "trick track" towards the end of the ride. Boulder Dash is the only coaster I've been on that rides the same anywhere in the train and will even go as to far as to say that the middle is one of the best places to sit, due to the constant speed and air time through the ride in any seat. Truly a remarkable ride and I can not wait to ride it when i go home to visit family. Definitely the number one wood coaster in my mind and number two over all.

Wow, this is, by far, the best wooden coaster I've ever ridden. Bulleting at 60 mph around a bunch of turns and airtime hills, this is a can't miss ride! After taking a nice stroll in the mountain wilderness, you turn and take a turning drop at blistering speeds at 60 mph. But then you get to the bunny hops, wow! The best ride in the park, the best ride in the Northeast, the best ride I've ridden. Period.

I certainly enjoyed this coaster. The setting absolutely does add to the ride experience, which is pretty smoooth among woodies. The track layout was excellent.

I will never forget my first ride on Boulder Dash. I heard so much about it, it was hyped so much in my head. After hitting the breaks I just screamed 'HOLY SH*T!' It really was that good. The trains on Boulder Dash roar through the entire course and the use of laterals is awesome. I can't help but wishing Larry Bill involved some larger drops. Nevertheless, only one ride experience surpasses this for me and the sheer intensity--note word choice, not roughness--is relentless and the setting is magnificent. As a bonus the ride op's were nothing but fabulous when I visited and on a two train operation the line moved very quickly, which really improved the experience.

I rode Boulder Dash twice in a row in the back seat, and every time, I had a hard time disembarking the train in order to make way for new riders. This rollercoaster is pure bliss. The woods setting is fantastic, every hill has airtime and strong laterals, and it even has one of the best first drops ever. Do not miss Boulder Dash if you go to Lake Compounce, it beats any other wooden rollercoaster I've ever been on in all areas.

Amazing. This ride does not fail to deliver.. with an ending that will blow your mind. 10/10 and my favorite coaster anywhere.

It&#39.s hard to add anything to the great reviews below. I rode this August 3, 2008 three times at 12, 3 and 5:30. Each ride was unique: the first near the back was a little rougher but this is what I like about wooden coasters - feeling the ride - versus too-smooth steel coasters. I heard they had refurbished the track but I like the fear-factor of feeling like the cars will fly off the rails. At first I was disappointed that the first drop wasn&#39.t a stomach-churner like traditional wooden coasters, but then realized it was a speed-inducing curve to send you careering through the woods with an out of control feeling. Second ride I went no hands until those last hills that have great air-time and grabbed the side at one point. Third time we waited for the front car. my eyes were tearing the whole time and knowing the curves better it was a no-hands 60+ mph speed thrill and convinced me I could ride the thing 10 times straight in a row. It&#39.s not scary in any way, just wildly exhilirating and with each ride my appreciation grew.

It&#39.s great speed for a wooden coaster, the woods are lush right now and the excellent hills at the end make it a consistently fun rush throughout. A poster below called those hills &quot.cathartic finales,&quot. and they are. Someone has a YouTube video where they filmed from the first car and the blips of silence are the air-times on those final hills. Not sure what the poster below meant by getting &quot.stapled&quot. since with no hands I didn&#39.t experience any negative effects with the lap bar.

The line looked daunting, but we waited no longer than 20 minutes and when they had both trains running I clocked 17 minutes and that was waiting several turns for the front seat. This beats the long Six Flags lines and you feel like you get your money&#39.s worth.

When I was a kid in the early 70s, LC was kind of a rinky-dink park with just the Wild Cat as it&#39.s main thrill. Boulder Dash was a great addition (I was out of state for 15 years), so I&#39.m glad CT has this on-the-chart wooden coaster. I&#39.m giving it a 10 for uniqueness and the wooden adrenaline-rush. Now I want to go back and ride it at night, for sure.

Date Ridden: July 4th, 2008. Times Ridden: 3 including a ride in the front seat at the very end of the night in pitch black darkness. I absolutely love coasters that offer a unique experience. The more I ride, the more I find myself preferring coasters with what I call &quot.character&quot. as opposed to gigantic steel coasters with loops and huge drops. For that reason, woodies now take up approximately 75 percent of my top 20 and Boulder Dash is a perfect example.I had read the reviews and watched the videos so I knew this was a &quot.terrain coaster&quot. using the wooded area on the other side of the lake as part of the overall experience. However, I really did not know this thing was actually built on the side of a mountain!! The lift hill takes you up that mountain. As you rise, you look over and can see the ground not 2 feet below you despite the fact you are rising approximately 100 feet. This is a true &quot.mountain&quot. coaster. However, this is definitely not just a gimmick ride. There is a great first drop, unbelievable airtime on the trip out including some serious ejector at one point, and the ride back to the station featuring the triple-up and insane drop where your picture is taken. I think this is the most complete wooden coaster on the face of the earth. There are no steel supports, no pre-fabricated wood, and this thing was not built back in the 1920&#39.s. It is a good ride simply because it is well-designed, long, unique, and fun. I would have to look but I think this is the ride that dethroned Raven&#39.s 5 year run at the top of the Golden Tickets back in 2004. Lastly, all three of my rides were from the middle of the train up. The line breaks in half at one point with half going to the back and half going to the front. We intended to ride the back first, but there was a line there and an empty seat toward the middle so we jumped on there. We then intended to ride the very front car but once again we walked into an empty third car and dove on. Our final ride, we waited a little extra for the front and it ended up one of my best experiences on a coaster ever. It was fast, out of control, and crazy with the total lack of lights anywhere on the track. It has been said that the back is a little rough and that Boulder Dash runs much better after the track has warmed up. Well, we caught it exactly right. As the most complete all-wooden non-prefabricated coaster it gets a perfect score.Overall score - 10

This review may simply be an affirmation of what has already been said below, but, nonetheless, I will take great joy in sharing my thoughts on this wooden monster. Like seemingly every other review has stated, this ride is "different." In more ways than one, it is simply awesome, yet not as "perfectly" consistent as some coasters of this day and age are. But is this perfect similarity really what you want in a good coaster? Do I want to ride the same ride, any time of the day, at any seat and experience all the same forces and feelings? In my opinion, Boulder Dash personifies greatness in the unexpected, the surprising, the illusive. I do believe, that MOST great rides will be at least GOOD from any seat at any time of the day. Same holds true for the Dash. Despite my countless POV views of this monster, absolutely nothing could prepare me for my first ride. This ride was good. The airtime was good, the laterals were good, although it seemed a bit uncomfortable and perhaps overly challenging. Once I knew a little bit about the ride, and the sun crept ever further beneath the looming mountain, I seemed to be able to ride it better, and the Dash, in turn, gave me better and better rides. I will make this as clear as possible: DO NOT get stapled on this ride! Perhaps the best way to ride it is one hand in the air and the other pushing up on your lap bar in order to prevent stapling. The stand-up air you get on the second half of this ride is absolutely extraordinary. The only comparison I can make as far as airtime goes is to the one and only Phoenix. However, Dash is no doubt faster and more restrained than the Phoenix is, so the airtime comparison is harder. The bottom line is: the airtime on the return trip is nothing short of fantastic, especially when taken from the back seat at night. The triple up at the end is incredibly unique and fantastic, and unlike anything I have ever experienced before. The turnaround before this second half airtime run is very climactic: unbanked, lateral producing and fast as ever right by the lake. It is a great way to set up one of the best airtime runs in the world. Moving backward to the first half of the ride: The lift has got to be my favorite lift-hill of all time. Long, but straight up a mountain in the thick forest. Nothing I had been on prepared me for that. Most of the first-half is lateral heavy, and even a bit "rough," but a fun, challenging type of rough, which doesn't leave the rider injured at all. There are two or three incredible airtime moments on this first half, but again it is primarily a lateral-heavy section of track. Another "different" thing about this fantastic coaster was the recognizable LACK of airtime during the first-half double-down! So, as far as my assessment of Dash goes: after my first ride I was convinced that it was very good, perhaps world class, and certainly in my relatively week top-5. After my two night rides, I basically fell in love with the thing and bumped it all the way ahead of Intamin's Superman:ROS and El Toro into my number 2 overall spot. So, do yourself a favor and head out to America's oldest amusement park today, and remember: DON'T GET STAPLED!!!

I have only been in the New England area once, and it was to ride Superman and this. Coming from Six Flags and 2 1/2 hour waits for Superman, I was stoked to see 20-30 minute waits for such an amazing looking coaster like this. Its absolutely picturesque how the coaster carves the mountainside. Beginning with an insane first drop (theres no air, but its just crazy), Boulder Dash sets the tone and after that comes a lightning quick ride packed with air on every following hill. In addition, the ride is amazingly smooth and unpredictable at the same time, even though its an out and back. It kept me guessing the whole way through!
