I had back injuries when i rode this so it wasn't very enjoyable.. but i may like it now..
Cornball Express without a doubt lives up to all of the hype. It runs very smooth even though it is a woodie. And had some great airtime. I sat in the middle so I'm sure that it probably got even more in the front. Definitely ride this one!
For whatever reason, I am not as big a fan of this coaster as most people seem to be. I recognize that it has some great air, especially for a twister and for a coaster so small, but something is just...missing for me. Perhaps it is the buzz bars, which do the job of making me more apprehensive than individual lap bars. There are some great hand choppers, particularly off the first and third drops, and the coaster does a lot in a small footprint. It is by no means a bad coaster. indeed, it is an above average one, but one that will not find itself in my Top 10 anytime soon.
Date Ridden: Labor Day weekend of 2008. Times Ridden: 10 all over the train. The Cornball Express was our reason for visiting Indiana Beach. This coaster is constantly ranked among the top wooden coasters in the world and I really wanted to see what the hype among enthusiasts was all about. Based on the short, intense layout, I was fully expecting a Top 20 ride with possibly a perfect score. Unfortunately, I did not get that but Cornball is still pretty good. The ride has 3 or 4 serious moments of air time in both the front and back seats. My first ride was toward the middle and it was very underwhelming. The front is probably the best seat (I rode it at night for my final ride) but the back is excellent also. One problem is that the single train has really taken a beating and needs some serious TLC. When riding the back seat, there was a screw that kept popping out on the car in front of me causing a piece of trim to flap around right in front of me. I was constantly taking off my shoe and hammering it back down into place so as not to get my eye put out. I mentioned this to a ride operator who just smiled and said they would work on it before the next day. The ops themselves were very friendly and allowed re-rides without having to walk around if there were empty seats. That is always a plus, but it is also important to make sure all screws are locked down tight. Each seat on the train had numerous signs of wear and tear on the restraints and the seats themselves. Some of the seatbelts were very ragged as well. All of the problems seemed very minor. I think just fixing a few areas could really make this thing look and ride like the world class coaster it has the potential to be. Let'.s face facts. This ride could score a 10. It has enough airtime, a smooth track, and only a buzz bar/seat belt restraint system. These three facts, plus the fast and friendly station crew (despite their adversity to a simple screwdriver) make this a fun experience. The view of Lake Shafer was gorgeous as well. In conclusion, riding in the middle of the train gets a solid 8 while the front and back are very high 9'.s. I do score rides based mainly on my experience and I had a great time on the Cornball Express. I will give it a 9 with a little more love by the park bumping up into the ranks of the top wooden coasters in existence. As of right now however, it is not there.
The cornball is a coaster that everyone should ride.
Absolutely incredible wooden coaster. The first drop, while not that big, gave insane ejector air and the following hill gave great laterals and then a great drop gave more ejector air for backseat riders. Following that was a great turnaround hill that gave great air time. Afterwards was another great hill that gave a pop for front seat riders and then insane ejector air for back seat riders. Afterwards was another good air time hill followed by a good helix with tons of laterals. Then came two more great bunny hills with plenty of air.
Awesome ride, first drop really surprised me. Lots of air. Wild, fun, great!!
Insanity; thy name is Cornball Express! I FINALLY was able to go to Indiana Beach today and CB was my first coaster ride of the day. It was instant airtime from the first twisted hill, plus it was surprisingly smooth (for a wooden coaster). Made all the better by the Buzz Bars (single lap bars) so my butt left the seat each hill. This is one of my new favorites!
Great ride although I prefer wood supports I found this to be one good airtime packed coaster.
This incredible ride came as a complete surprise to me. It doesnt look like much, but it packs the best ejector air Ive ever encountered. The airtime on the third drop is positively breath stealing. The back seat is the best ride to me, but the front isnt shabby either. The middle is somewhat boring, avoid it. This ride really must be ridden again and again to fully appreciate the genius of it. Fortunately, theres almost never a line. I was able to reride it virtually indefinitely without even having to wait for a single run of the train to go. The ride ops are a bit grouchy on the Cornball Express, and they wont let you "wait for special seats". This is stupid, but it does process the line through quickly, which is especially important with single train operation.
Update: I got several rides on this over the past weekend during ERT sessions. Cornball is still running great. There is a rough spot at the bottom of the first drop, but its not a big deal. The ride tracks extremely well everywhere else. CCI and IB really nailed it with this project. This just goes to show that you dont have to build a massive coaster to have a great ride, especially where wood is concerned.
