The Thunderbolt is a classic wooden roller coaster thats not to be missed if youre at Kennywood! The helix is great, as are the huge drops in the ravine. The only problem is that the ride is braked way too much. Still, its a Kennwyood classic!
Good ride. Great beginning. Overall a fun ride.
Next time you ride, look how tight the arc is on the last turn before the final hill, and yet the trains make a flat 180 degree turn and lose minimal speed while doing it. Its a great ride for making contact with your date! Some operators get too aggressive with braking after the helixes but still a thrill. At night the cars disappear into a dark ravine, adding to the fun.
Wheres the fire? I got no thrill out of it. Too much hype. And it had no airtime.
Ah, good ol T-Bolt! Thunderbolt is definitely a world-class coaster all the way!! T-Bolt is an all around fun woodie, with surprises that you dont see on many wooden coasters today. T-Bolts layout is magnificent! For starters, you drop right out of the station (sooo cool!!) and then drop again before the lift! The trains are old fashioned and look really slick, and without seat dividers you can squash a friend!! The best part of all is that the big drop of 95 feet is hidden at the very end of the ride - its the last drop! T-Bolt is intense, I will admit, but not rough!! The middle portion (off of the lift) with the helix-style drops is awesome and very unique!! Throw in some decent speed, a modest bit of airtime, and excellent laterals and youve got the winner that is Thunderbolt. A Kennywood staple that is a must-ride when you visit! Great coaster!!
One of the best coasters anywhere. It starts right out of the station with a huge drop right into the ravine, a turnaround, then another huge drop before you even get to the lift hill. The drops have great airtime, and the double spin around the station give great laterals. This coaster has a great combination of elements, and has its longest drop at the end, making for a great fanily.
I also cannot forget the cars. They are great looking old coaster cars, and I love the fact that they have no seat dividers, allowing the laterals to really show themselves.
I dont see why this rated so well. It was a very good ride, yes, but people confuse unsafe restraints and roughness with airtime. Its rough air-time. A good ride, but overrated.
This is a nice old Kennywood coaster. What a classic! Even though it is old it still packs a good punch. I love how it just drops right out of the station. Great woodie.
An avarage coaster the bumpiness is very rough and it distracts you from the ride . Although it has huge drop after huge drop !~!
Thunderbolt is actually my third favorite coaster at Kennywood after Phantoms Revenge and surprisingly, Jack Rabbit! I adore this coasters layout and how the drops keep getting bigger and bigger as you go through. Some of the bumpiness distracts you from the fascinating ride, but its enjoyable overall and watching PR zoom by during a ride is a big rush just to see. Of course the last drop is the best and the laterals are great after the lift! Great coaster at an excellent park which really shines at night!
