I just got on RCDB and found a park near Dollywood. It is in Sevierville at a park called Race World. The coaster is now closed. It was called Thunder Eagle. Has anyone ever rode it? It is a little big to be at a "side of the road" park.It is a nice looking woodie.

I'm trying to plan my 2005 itinerary and might make a long weekend trip up from NY and hit Canobie, Funtown/Splashtown, Palace Playland, York's and Clark's Trading Post

Clarks is an easy 1-2 hour run thought. But it's good for a day as well. you cay want to end the day at Story Land Glen, NH (1 coaster, 20+ rides(new expansion for next year) or Santa's Village (1 coaster(Zierer large model), 13+ rides, interactive dark ride, and A Tinkerdoodle Christmas 3D movie.

I was looking into those two parks but just don't think I'd have fun there. If I travel with my niece and sister it might ba a different story.

Your likely to have more fun at story land then Santa's Village. I have been to both on my own. I do go with my cousins often as well. Story land has enuff that you can injoy yourself. basigle just better themed versions of your normal park rides. For Example the Turtle twerl is a Turtle themed Tilt-a-whirl. look about 18 month back and you can find a trip report I posted on this park. if you look Story land is rated up there right with Clarks.

I don't put much credence in the park rankings for the smaller parks right now because it is basically just an average of all the rides reviewed multiplied by a factor of 10

True you can't take the park ranking as word. a park with fewer really good reviews could come out on top. A park with hundreds of reviews could end up lower just because of a hand full of reviews.

Over all I have been to both parks many times at least once a year to both. My openion is Story Land is the better of the two parks.

Phantom's Revenge at Kennywood. Everyone talks about hypers like Magnum XL-200, Apollo's Chariot, & Nitro, but I hardly hear a lot of rave reviews about PR. That ride has some of the best airtime around & it's so intense too.

Speaking of hypers, Steel Eel at Sea World San Antonio is forgotten because of the park its at. Its not great but never seems to get mentioned. Its brother, Great White is forgotten alot too.

about the phantoms revenge...that isnt airtime, thats just insanity. With the restrains it has, im counting the days till someone flies out and lands in another state.

Some underrated coasters:

1)Pyrenees
Not much is known or ever spoken about this one. Most people see its name and that its in Parque Espana, so they think its in Spain - WRONG! Actually, this mega-B+M invert is in Japan. Looks awesome with a nice layout and six inversions.

2)Volcano:The Blast Coaster
This one might not seem so underrated, but not many people talk about it. Yes, I like Montu better as my favorite invert. But VTBC is surprisingly better than other B+M inverts I've ridden such as DD and Raptor. It has a great launch and the inversions have a lot of hangtime.

3)Ozark Wildcat
I've heard some people say this one is a little bit rough and short, but I've also heard some wonderful praise. People have said its a more intense version of Thunderhead. Its at Celebration City, a relatively unknown park, but OW looks like one mean wooden coaster.

I agree with this choice 110%. Even I almost let the hype surrounding all the other great Intamins out there, blind me from this awesome coaster. After a reality check, I had to give this coaster its props.

Phantom's Revenge is amazing, I don't really remember the restraints but I definately did not feel unsafe.

^Aren't the restraints simply lapbars and seatbelts? They took out the OTSRs

I too have heard some good things abotu this coaster. it was bought by a canadian park companie. they weren't able to get permision to instal it in there park. they own another park but a local ordanince would make it hard to instal it there as well.

I can think of a few of underrated rides. My first one is Wicked Twister at CP. With all the other big rides there this one is often overlooked. Ghost Rider at Knotts is an awesome ride. Shivering Timbers at Michigan's Adventures, I feel, is overlooked because its a great coaster in a park thats not widely recognized as one of the best.

Coasterkaz, those are all great rides but aren't what I would call underrated. Maybe Shivering Timbers, but WT and Ghostrider get plenty of attention and praise.

I would definitely dig a little deeper to get to some lesser-known coasters.

Other than the coasters I've already mentioned in previous posts, there are a few more I feel are underrated in that you don't hear that much about them even though they look like great coasters:
-Tonerre De Zeus, Parc Asterix
-Megazeph, Six Flags New Orleans
-Flight of Fear, PKD + PKI
-Dania Beach Hurricane, Boomers

if you ever make it out to Canobie NH for The Yankee Connonball or to Funtown USA ME for Excaliber take the time to hit them.

they to are verry underrated.
