Rolling Thunder is a 70s racing coaster. I bet it used to barrel down drops and rumble through its two turns while racing the opposing train. Today its just "another coaster" at SFGAdv; vastly overshadowed by the new neighbor, El Toro. Rolling Thunder hasnt exactly stood the test of time either; almost exclusively due to SF not giving it the proper TLC. The coaster is as rough as rough can get it seems. I know this aint a steelie but the rattling and bumping make it seem that an earthquake is hitting while you ride. Today the trains crawl over hills and stammer around corners; the only airtime is during the first drop and SF has done their best to ruin that by adding in seatbelts. The original buzz bar is quite enough for this coaster. I normally dont complain about the queue in reviews but RTs line is just unbearably slow moving.
I got on this coaster once while it was racing and it adds a lot to the ride. Unfortunately its a rarity to get on this while it races. Most likely just an accident by the head ride supervisor: "oh! we already had side 1 open? Oh well, just run the other too I guess, no sence in sending the extra ride ops back..." The layout is fun, the racing is fun, and many other things could be considered fun on RT. Unfortunately all of those fun things have been pretty much kept at a minimum on todays Rolling Thunder.
this ride is very intense it hurts alot but i love it. I have heaed stories from people at great adventure the are tearing it down and next year will extend Viper and maybe build a new wooden coaster.
Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo This ride is a disgrace, Theres never two trains running at the same time, Its rough, and well thas it
This could be a better coaster. It is still fairly decent, but needs a lot of work. With TLC ths could be a good ride. It should be retracked.
I thought this ride was really good. It was a walk on (well every ride at the park was a walk on) It is rough but hey wood coasters are supposed to be that way and thats what i like about them.
I dont see why everyone hates this ride, I loved it! I went on a 2 day trip to SFGADV and they had both sides running, one on each day. The right side is definatly the better side. The speed is great. The ride isnt even that bumpy, only at certain times. I like the layout to the ride also. Best part is that there is Hardly any wait to get on!
overall great ride,i like wen both tracks are open at the same time, nice
All the time Ive been to this park i had never riden this coaster. I dont know why everyone does not like it. Its very fun and theres tons of airtime on it. You cant complain about the line because the isnt one. All in all this was surprisingly a good coaster.
a good ride but very rough. it is very old and deffinitely needs to be repaired.
i really like the layout but i think it should be removed and a new dulling racer put in its place it woulb be one long ride with the space of the old one. i was looking at areol photos of sf parks and tis caster cases the park to loose a lot of space
