Review of Georgia Cyclone, The @ Six Flags Over Georgia

Prominent near the park’s main (well, now only) entrance, the Georgia Cyclone looks truly impressive, with hundreds upon hundreds of white-coated lumber, rising more than 100 feet above the ground. The Cyclone opened in 1992, and I had the pleasure of riding it in the inaugural season. This coaster, designed to replicate the legendary Coney Island Cyclone, is a very good wood twister, and it provides one bangin’ ride, with that term being used in multiple meanings. The lift takes you up about 100 feet, and you plunge down, going slightly to the left. You head back up a hill, and then enter the massive, twisted layout that the Cyclone provides. The next hill is one of my favorites, the way it jolts to the right and flies right by the station, providing airtime and lateral movement. The rest of the ride repeats this process, with an all-out assault on your ability to inflict pain on yourself. While it is a very good wooden coaster, it is also quite rough, and it will most certainly rattle your internal organs, so have a medic on standby. I have yet to experience the original Coney Island Cyclone, but I have been on all three clones, and this one is very comparable to the Texas Cyclone, a coaster which I would have loved to ride before the accident. And there s absolutely no doubt that the Georgia installation is better that SFMM’s Psyclone, simply because, nothing is worse than that poor attempt at coaster designing. Oh well, 2 out of the 3 clone’s rock, and that would get you an MVP in baseball, so I’m still satisfied.

My original rating was an 8, and I think that I can stick to that, it certainly doesn’t deserve a 10, but I also can’t give it a 9, because in comparison to the other woodies that I awarded a 9 (Rampage, Hurricane, Giant Dipper), it just isn’t quite as good.
