Houdini- the Great Escape is by far the best version of this kind of ride that I have ever been on. Across from the Rodeo, Houdini is located in Crack Axle Canyon in a very nice building themed to be an opera house. I almost missed this ride because I thought that this rides building was an actual show it looked that good! Just as I was making my way through the queue line, the ride began boarding. There was a preshow on this one in an exceptionally well-themed room. There was good lighting, books, mantles, chandeliers, figures, mirrors, and so much more. You watch a brief little preshow on a flat-screen TV (seems very out of place and I think that a TV themed to a mirror would be much better). Due to the music being played in this room and the chatter of other riders, it was very hard to hear what was being said, but it showed Houdini performing a trick to various people. Then they mention that Houdini will be pulling off a new trick and that we are the audience. Then the lights flicker and you see a cage rattle and a water tank. Then you board the actual ride part. The room is very well themed riding on benches. Along the walls are windows, statues, and various other items. Restrained by a lap bar, the ride begins quickly. During the ride an announcer tries to mention details, but all of the sounds were hard to hear due to the chatter of other riders. The ride itself was excellent as the illusion of going upside down was incredible thanks to seats actually moving back and forth up and down the walls and also being well synchronized with the rotations of the room. Overall, a good attraction to get out of the heat and is a tamer attraction for those who enjoy these haunted swing type rides.
