Review of Alpengeist @ Busch Gardens Williamsburg
0 Rating Posted by: sowinski on 9/14/2006 10:33:00 PM
Another well themed Busch ride. As an alpine skier, I liked the out of control ski lift theme, especially the snow on the roof tops. Probably, the only snow Williamsburg ever sees. The ride is tall and fast, but because of the size of the coaster, the elements dont feel as intense as some smaller, slower coasters. The scenery is cant miss on any of the coasters at this park. I rode this coaster 4 times and I preferred rides towards the front more than the rougher back. It was also interesting because this ride gave the best opportunity to get a preview of Gryphons construction. A very good coaster, but just a step or 2 below the big boys.

Soooo...Alpengeist is the little boy, despite the fact that it is the tallest, fastest B&M Invert on earth? LOL Size of the track, you say? Thats standard B&M invert track, buddy

Sorry, for the confusion fergusonat, I am aware of Alpengeists status as the tallest and fastest invert. I meant that compared to all the coasters that Ive ridden, it is a step or 2 below my favorites. My track comment was referring to the largeness of some of the elements and not the actual track itself. Point taken. Perhaps, a slight rewording is in order.

It is the tallest and fastest, but it provides a little boyish ride for sure. I see where you are coming nfrom sowinski.

As much as I know I should ignore the anonymous hecklers, I cant help myself. While Volcano is a good ride its a 2 trick pony at best, where Alpengeist is a complete coaster. Thats what B&M does. They make coasters not just launching thrill machines. I think theres a difference between coaster enthusiasts and thrill ride enthusiasts.

Back to the review, I agree that the elements are huge and maybe less intense. Like the Immelman for example is very gentle. I actually like the largeness of Alpie, like youre flying through the air, doing inversions ten stories above the ground. But I can see how someone may prefer a tighter, smaller ride like Talon. Funny how the same view is taken when comparing, say Apollos Chariot to Millennium Force. One is shorter, but provides mucho air while the other is taller and shoots blanks on almost every hill. Yet, I digress...

Thanks for rewording, sowinski, haha. Strange, I had the chance to reride Talon this past summer and found it much more tame than I remembered it. I much prefer Alpengeists intensity to Talon any day. Now, Great Bear and Top Gun: The Jet Coaster contain intensity far above Alpies, but I think Alpengeist has more of the complete package, just as CoasterGlxy said. Either way, good review
