Review of Hydra the Revenge @ Dorney Park

Excellent steel coaster that is my favorite looping coaster to date. Replacing Hercules, Hydra looks great, with the track hugging the ground at points and then shooting up into a huge inversion. Well, despite being the new attraction on the year I visited Dorney and it being a Saturday, it had less than a 15 minute wait all day thanks to a 2 train operation and lightning quick loading. The whole ride was very smooth and much more intense than I anticipated. The jo-jo roll out of the station was very cool and gave great hangtime, and the first drop was pure madness and gave great ejector air along with being steep. All of the inversions gave good hang-time as well, especially the zero-G rolls. Also, the drop before the corkscrew is really sudden as well and gave good ejector air to boot. Definitely a great floorless, especially in the back seat.

You only recommend this ride to thrill seekers and coaster lovers? That funny, because I would recommend it to families and as a childrens first major coaster.

I thought pulling out of the Cobra Roll was pretty intense, and Ive experienced the thrashingly-intense Cobra Roll on Alpengeist...I really dont see how Hydra is as tame as people say it is. I admit its not the MOST exciting B&M out there, but I dont think its boring by any stretch

Im not saying that it is boring, Im just saying that it is something that is not that overly intense and can be enjoyed by more than just the people that are looking for a big thrill.

I wouldnt recommend this as a childs first major coaster as Hydra is kind of intense. However, I do agree it isnt as intense as other roller coasters.

Well, first looping coaster... hell, Laser was my first looping coaster and that thing is intense as Notorious B.I.G. was fat.

Hydra is kind of intense? No Yoshi, you are kind of a wimp. Hydra is YAFBM.

Herc, thats how it should be. I doubt that there are many kids out there who cant take intensity in a roller coaster. Maybe its just me, I mean, I did get my first steel ride on a machine with one of the most intense elements on earth! In my mind Schwarzkopfs will always be awesome first coasters: smooth rides, no OTSRs, usually not too intimidating and best of all, the 42" height requirement. Bonus points for a biggie reference LOL

Hydra, intense. Youve got to be kidding me. Ive been on kiddie coasters more intense then Hydra. It is a fine coaster, but certainly not a thrill machine, and the ending is a total bore.

Im not saying Hydra as a whole is intense...I simply said exiting the cobra roll pulled some powerful gs...but I agree, its more of a family coaster...buts its a family coaster that offers some thrills
