Review of Colossus @ Six Flags Magic Mountain

Colossus used to be the king of wooden coasters, and the main reason to come to Magic Mountain. That was a long time ago, and Colossus has lost that distinction. Regardless, this is still a classic, and really quite huge (even though it looks kind of dwarfed with Goliath and Scream and Superman towering over it). This is an out-and-back coaster, so it doesnt have any tight twists and it really is very smooth. It wont rattle riders like Psyclone does, and by comparison is extremely tame. This is also a dual-track racing coaster. Ordinarily they dont race anymore (only one track is normally operating), but I last went during Fright Fest and both sides were operating, one forwards and one backwards. Backwards was definitely a more unique, slightly more intense experience. While they still didnt race, I was very happy to see both sides up and running, and think Magic Mountain should consider keeping a forward and backward train year round, as some other dual-track woodies do.

Im glad that you got to see it race, when I went last August, only one side was operating, but then again, the ride was still a walk-on.

The line is never really long for Colossus anymore. Both the forward and backward line were short. Unfortunately, they still werent racing. If both sides happened to dispatch a train at the same time, then I guess they would, but I didnt see it happen. I was just happy to see both sides running at all, and riding backwards certainly makes for a fun ride.
