Well, I have great news. My family and I have pretty much finalized that we will be going to CP this July! I'm psyched, and can't wait. Until then, what are some tips and such that you can give me? Order of rides, what to do when, and anything else you can think of would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

I saw that, but I figured it should go in the proper forum, and our circumstances for a trips are different, so I thought the tips might change accordingly. I will look in that tread though.

A couple more notes on our trip - we'll be there for only one day, a Sunday.

good points - what time do you plan on getting to the park? will you be able to stay at the park until it closes? do you already have hotel plans?

I'd like to get there when it opens, and stay at least in to the night, and maybe till closing. No hotel plans yet, would it be beneficial to stay on site or at Breakers Express?

I have a sort of list of rides I "have" to ride, rides I want to ride, and rides I don't really need to. These are somewhat in order.

Must Rides

Millennium Force
Top Thrill Dragster
Blue Streak
Raptor
Magnum XL-200

Want to Ride

Mantis
Gemini
Mean Streak
Wicked Twister
Wildcat
Cedar Creek Mine Ride
Iron Dragon

Doesn't Really Matter

Corkscrew
Disaster Transport

Does this seem about right?

If you'll only be in the park only one day it's worth it to stay at Breakers or Breakers Express Saturday night to get into the park early. The early entry in the park should guarantee you the opportunity to get on two lines for your major must ride before the park opens to the public.

I would add Wicked Twister to the must ride list, it's a great ride.

I know CP Guy will disagree with me on Raptor, because I think the line for Raptor gets longer as the day goes on, he doesn't.

I would go to MF first, then when you get off you either get on the line again or head to Mantis because it's close to the MF exit and it will still be a walk-on if you are in the park early. Then head to Raptor. Hopefully you can have all 3 ridden shortly after the park opens to the public. If it's a cool morning TTD may have trouble in the AM (it needs a warmed up track). If you run to TTD first you may be waiting awhile before people start riding (this is based on last year's trip, things may have changed).

If you see them giving out Freeway stamps in front of MF, Raptor, WT, Mantis (not sure if they are doing TTD) get the stamp. It allows you to jump to the front of the line at the specific time they stamp you with. This is the big mystery of the park for me. The link below for PointBuzz.com gives a good explanation of Freeway and can answer other quetions.

Blue Streak will have the shortest line of your must rides and Magnum XL-200 is usually pretty quick also. You don't need to rush to these, but for Magnum you do need to ride mutliple times to try all parts of the train if there is no line, including the famous ejector seat, 3rd row 1st car.

If your in the mood for a relaxing fun non-coaster give Cedar Downs Racing Derby a try. It's not a carousel.

Thanks a lot for those tips larrygator. I'll keep them in mind, and also see what I can do about us staying at Breakers Express. MF would be a great way to start the day. I've had the opportunity to ride V2 at SFGAm, but I didn't bother to ride. If the line is fairly short (about 30 minutes or less), I'll give WT as ride, but if it's too long, I won't take time to do it.

Mantis is never a walk on. Only If first in line. Wait until Raptor at night before you leave. It will be less than a 4 min wait. But before that get in line for MF. Wicked Twister is a must ride. I say do not miss either COrkscrew or DT they are both very fun rides. Get the 3-D glasses in the DT queue, you will need these for the ride and for the queue. MF usually has a very very long line in the morning. TTD if open(keep and eye on the sigins, they change often) go to it first the longest in the morning you will have to wait is about 45mins but it is worth it. A 2 and 1/2 day is a must. TIP:Start with Iron Dragon first if you get a star light pass.

You really need to pay attention to the question - he's at the park for one day - but I'm sure he apprecaites your comment about needing 2 1/2. Since he has only one day he has prioritized his rides, a must. On my first two trips to CP I only spent one day there and got on every coaster I wanted and many more than once.

If you get in the park early Mantis does not have a long line, not a walk-on but not more then ten mintues either, especially if he stays at Breakers Express and gets in the park early. When I was there I rode MF and Mantis before the park was opened to the general public, the other day I got on the TTD line.

Disaster Transport is "NOT" a must ride

Yeah, I would go for at least two days if I could, but that's not possible, so one it shall be. As I say, one day is better than no day!

Is that extra 1/2 hour that you get if you stay on site crucial? I'm not sure if my parents want to spend the money to stay on site, especially since we could probably stay at an area hotel for free with points. However, Breakers Express isn't that expensive, right?

My tentative plan right now is, regardless of on-site stay or not, to head to MF first. Then maybe hit up Mantis, though I'd rather ride Raptor than Mantis since I've been on RR and Mantis is pretty much just a smaller version.

The day we're going, the public park hours are 10 a.m. - 11 p.m. Since I plan to stay well into the night, if not to closing, what rides should you ride at night? My thoughts would be MF, Raptor, and maybe Iron Dragon.

Unfortunatley Breakers will probably be upwards of $150 a night for a one weekend night in the middle of the summer. You may be looking at plan B, I know how paretns are when they see $150 vs. free. I would prioritze Raptor over Mantis. MF, Magnum and Raptor are all good night coasters. Mean Streak can be "fun" at night also because there are few lights at that side of the park. Well at least as fun as Mean Streak can be.

What about Breakers Express?

I would prioritize Raptor over Mantis too, I like inverts better than stand-ups, plus Mantis is like a smaller version of RR, which I've been on; Raptor is more unique.

Even though Mean Streak is supposed to be rough, I'd like to give it at least one ride.

OK, thanks for the night-ride list too. I'm not a huge fan of suspendeds anyway, so I think Iron Dragon will be one ride at most.

Sorry - that's the Breakers Express quote I got out of the brochure they sent me. I forgot to type in the word Express.

OK, no problem. If we get there when it opens and stay till it closes, I'll have 13 hours, so 1/2 an hour isn't that much more.

Here's a list of when I think I'll try to ride each coaster. Of course, this will depend on line length, etc., but please tell me if this sounds like a good plan.

MF - Early, and then again at night
TTD - Whenever the line is shortest (?)
Raptor - Early, and then again at night
Magnum - Mid-day, and then again at night
Blue Steak - Early, when I do Raptor
Mean Steak - Mid-day, when I get to the back of the park
Mantis - Early, 'round the time I do TTD
Iron Dragon - Early, 'round the time I do TTD
Wicked Twister - Early - Afternoon
Cedar Creek Mine Ride - Afternoon

I Don't EVER remember the queue being short.

I love Disaster Transport, myself, but it's not for everyone. Animan1, as you probably could guess, it's not very intense (But...the ride is in complete darkness for the most part and that helps to boost the excitment) and if you pay attention to theming, a lot of it is very uneven and cheezy. I liked it but it's DEFINITLY shouldn't be at the top of your list nor should you be upset if you don't ride it. If you do get a chance, though, make sure it's one of you ride it in the early morning or afternoon, though, as it has very long lines almost completely throughout the day (at least when I went).

The problem is a lot of people seem to be misled when they first get in the building. Even if the queque make look empty at first glance, when you turn the corner and go into the second room, the line begins there. And there are MANY more rooms in the complex to weave through. Also, it's not the fastest line in the world (the A.C is 110% appreciated, though).

A few tips to help you out, there.

I was just curious what day of the week your going to CP. My family always goes Tues and Wed or Mon and Tues. I was able to easily ride all the coasters in one day. Of course I didnt go on a weekend and TTD wasnt working when I went last summer. I think the longest I waited for a coaster was about an hour and 15 min for MF, and mantis but all the other lines were really not that bad. Do NOT miss Wicked Twister its a great ride (sit in the back) and a good time to ride disaster transport is in the evenings when people start to leave, when I went it was a walk on and its actually pretty fun. Rides like corkscrew, blue streak, iron dragon never really have long lines, the most you would wait would be 20min maybe and the line for Gemini always moves very fast even when the line is long. The great thing about CP is there ride capacity, they get people on and off very quickly. Just so you know certain rides i think wildcat and iron dragon close when the lazer show starts, im not sure if they reopen them afterwards or not. One day is not really enough to relax and enjoy all the differnt aspects of the park, but if all you really wanna do is ride the coasters you should have no problem getting them all in, espically if you have 13hrs in the park.

Thanks for the tips, katydid. I'm hopefully (it's not guaranteed yet) going on a Sunday, which is supposed to be the least-crowded day of the week.

Maybe in the morning but Sunday's are hell in the afternoon. Wednsdays are the best, since most people plan a 4 or 3 day weekend (S-S-M-T, T-F-S-S, S-S-M, F-S-S.) That leaves Wednsday pretty empty.

Then how do you explain this? Red Rascal has also said that Sunday is the best day to go from a crowd standpoint.

Guess it's just around here then. You never ever hit Hersheypark on a Sunday. I've gone a few times and sure it's all nice in the monring then BAM the crowds came in and there was a 3 hour wait for the Great Bear.
