I pity the April Fool who misses this, the final opening day ever for Astroland.

If anybody wants to try to coordinate travel plans from the National Capital area, I'm all ears. At this point, Momma Timbers is still trying to determine if she can get the weekend off from work, but I and my sidekick T2 will be Coney Island bound, even if we have to take the Fung-Wa bus to get there.

i like the idea. i'm sure adriahna will make it, too.

i can easily arrange transport from b-more. i have many nyc housing options, but it sounds like you want to do a day trip only?

Ht, I'm actually looking to leave Friday night, spend Saturday in NYC, and then hit Astroland for opening day on Sunday, returning either that night or early Monday. I've also got peeps to stay with in the city. Momma T now says she's about 80% sure she can make the scene.

Anyone looking to do a day trip from the Philly area and be willing to make me their guest?

^i'd like to say yes, but the idea of vegetabling in nyc for a few days and spreading out the drive appeals to me.

chinatownbus it, herc, like timberman said. it's gotta be dirt cheap from philly. it's a no-brainer subway jaunt from c-town. i'd love to see you there.

timberman, if you and the fam swing through b-more to grab me i can make it worth your while with some hot insomnia coffee, some totally evil CD mixes of 80s german industrial music for your son to listen to, and some indiscreet flashings of my wallet full of benjamins at all the toll plazas.

Oh, I'll be there, all right. There is another street and band organ rally planned for that day, too - that alone makes it utterly mandatory that I attend.

I am disconsolate, however, knowing that this will be the final opening day of Astroland - I will be spending endless dough in that park all season long.

Gosh, ht, I'm always eager for an excuse to visit Charm City. We'd be glad to swing by in the Timber Ride. If you're traveling with the missus it will be a bit of a squeeze, but we can make it happen. Just know that Leon is likely to bust out the "nun-socks" when he hears the German industrial metal. (Oh, and we'll need a portable CD player, as I just recently upgraded my 8-track to cassette.)

If only I was a little bit older, than I'd definitely like to travel up to Astroland & catch up with you guys, but ya'll know how overprotective parents are, so I obviously can't go. I guess I'll never get a chance to experience such a phenomenal & historical amusement park with the grandfather of all coasters, the Cyclone. Let me know how the trip turns out.

ah- i'm a nincompoop. i just remembered that i'm playing (music) friday night as part of an art festival here in b-more. i may be obligated to stay all weekend for the festival.

nuts, this sounds very fun, and spiritually important. i may just come up on the chinatown bus sunday. i'll figure it out and update here soon.

upon deeper reflection, herc, i discovered i would probably need to make it a single day jaunt after all, in spite of the appeal of laxed weekend in the b-apple.

in theory i will either take a bus or possibly could pick you up in the city of bro-love en route to nyc. sharing tolls and gas would make the whole thing pretty economical for each of us. think of all the bad-mouthing we could do on our peers at TPC. one caveat: the music i listen to in my car is usually either cheesy as hell or painfully experimental noise.

I just got the e-mail from ACE today: $12.99 wristbands for unlimited rides at Astroland and up to four rides on the Cyclone. I'm not sure whether you need to be an ACEr to get that deal, but they're usually pretty cool about allowing guests.

In the past, ACE members could buy wristbands for guests.

^i have nothing but high praise and flowery metaphors for thee, adriahna. the unfettered back-stabbing will be primarily be at the expense of cyclonic and larry.

I say anybody who misses this epochal TPC event is fair game.

You guys will probably find this lame, but I will not go because I'll either be trout fishing or at KD.

But I am going up there this year or I will die trying.

I may have to jump in on this trip as well. Missing Astroland's last opening day when I live a mere hour or so from the place would just be a sin!

It would be SO COOL to meet you there, Horizons - this is shaping up to be a seriously rad TPC get together.

^so what's up, herc, are you gonna sit in cyclonic's PT listening to john williams' star wars soundtrack while debating the virtues of anne coulter or do you wanna get caffeined up with hrry and listen to the turkish acid rock/baltimore club music mix jams in my silver jellybean car?

lemme know 'cause i'll probably buy my chinatown bus ticket this week otherwise.

^^ I think it will be easier for all of us if I just catch a ride with Nathan. No offense. Though, your offer is very tempting and very much appreciated. Thanks for the offer, but Nathan and I are going to work something out.

What time is this until? The Mets start the season at 8PM. Just wondering (Now that I say that, Nathan will be sure to get lost on the way back)

^it would in fact be easier for me that way, but since i extended the offer earlier up this thread i wanted to keep it valid.

i like the c-town bus and all the wierdos. i'm going to stock up on raw red ginseng while in c-town and also fat bags of bulk lapsang souchong tea. by the time i see y'all i will have a stomach full of chinese dim sum brocoli in oyster sauce and bright twinkles in each eye from the ginseng.

if it's cold and/or rainy that day it will only build our collective TPC character.

The Cyclone hauls ass in the rain, so it's a win-win, as far as I'm concerned.
