Hello everyone,

I am a new member, but didn't realize these types of boards exisisted until now! I have been interested in the theme park industry for a few years now and recently developed a survey for one of my classes. If anyone has the time, I will post the link here for you to take it!

Otherwise, thanks for the read!

I'll take the survey...

But please, there is no need to post the same thread 5 times.

Anyone else happy Six Flags got rid of the dancing old guy?

I know allot of people are upset. I though the Commercials were innovative and original and they did a good job at getting your attention but I never cared for the Mr 6 character himself.

The first time I saw him dance, I thought it was pretty interesting and catchy. Then it got annoying. I'm glad I don't see his face plastered everywhere like it was a year ago.

I loved Mr Six! I taped the commercials! They were awesome! I am so dissappointed that he is gone... By the way I took the survey. Who are you working with?

Well, I am a graduate student at BU, so I am doing this for research purposes only. As some of you may know, Six Flags is currently changing their branding image to be that of a more family friendly theme park, rather than a thrill ride/high intensity kind of experience. Of course, the coasters will remain, but they realized they were losing families to other parks, and in reality a family of four will spend more $$ than
a couple of teenagers, no offense! So, we are doing a branding campaign of our own for Six Flags based on what people want to see there for one of our projects.

Very cool. I did something like this for my Business Communications class this past semester. This is some fun stuff and I hope you enjoy doing it.

No problem, what we found was very interesting.
Out of 92 people surveyed, we found that 57% of people thoughts that rides were "very important" in deciding on which theme park to visit, while 46% thought atmosphere was also "very important." An overwhelming 90% of respondents said that Disney was the place to take a family, which of course is why Six Flags is currently repositioning itself in the market for that all-important family dollar. Males tended to favor roller coasters, while females enjoyed concerts and shows more.
We also received some very frank comments about the Six Flags brand, including this: "Parks All Need Improvement...Rides Always Down, Unfriendly Staff, Dirty Parks, Over Priced, Need A New Management Team"
It seems many of our respondents has similar feelings, and a result, Six Flags is currently rebranding itself as a more family friendly park. We have already seen examples with their employee appearance requirements, and now they are apparently closing six parks due to their huge budget defecit. We had some ideas for them to portray a more family friendly brand, including co-sponsorships with Major League Baseball, which include park discounts for Little Leaguers in uniform, Dasani Water, which would offer free water to guests similar to Lake Compounce, and Kodak, which would offer free one time use digital cameras at Six Flags, where visitors would take photgraphs of their family in the park, and upload them to the Six Flags website for sharing with other guests.
I thought this project was a great insight into the industry, and a good case study on how to re-brand a product that already has some pre-conceived perception, in this case a teenaged paradise with thrill rides that doesn't cater to families.

cedar point is basically a thrill park. my guess is that they are very successful. what's the numbers on CP? is that park not as profitable as i would think it is?

i very rarely go to any six flags, but it's hard for me to accept that "thrill parks" are not lucrative. has there not been a race for building expensive record breaking rides for the last 25 years? at least at some point in these 25 years some sort of precedent was set that determined that huge and glorious rides paid for themselves and then some.

i am tempted to say that six flags was hurt by mismanagement more so than their "bend" towards thrill rides. for instance, in jjjjr's survey one of the biggest complaints was "rides often closed." that doesn't suggest a bias towards theming and family, but rather a complaint against chronic disorganization. however, i openly state that i have done zero research on the company and i have not been to their parks but twice in the last 15 years. any of the economically tilted members have an opinion my suppositions?

Thanks for lettign us know how the project came out. Some interestign numbers. I agree whith allot of your Sugestions. but Think some like the camera one may not work out wel as you think. Kodack isn't in the best shap in order to just suply cameras. SFI isn't in the shap to pay for them. Also I beleave SFiphave a deal with Pentax.
