Here. I figured since nobody else was going to do it, I would. There is something in the suggestion box about creating a thread about defunct rides. So Larry said to someone, "Why don't you just create a thread about it?" So here it is. Put whatever you want about your favorite defunct ride in this thread. Write a review about it since you can't do it anymore, make comments on peoples reviews, make comments on the rides... do whatever you want.

Long live the Eli at Knoebels...May your one chair live for ever in the musuem. But yeah, I remember riding that thing and when you would be on the down side I would always see that big ice cream cone on the soft ice cream stand and get hungry. Ha.

Herc, where's the review?

The Great Six Flags Air Racers

The Air Racers, an Intamin Air Racer tower ride, was one of the most unique rides that I have ever been on. The Air Racer's have since been dismantled, following a trend over the past decade in which these old rides were replaced with other towers. The GSFAR were torn down to make space for Acrophobia, though I would have preferred to keep the old ride. Sure, Acro is also a one-of-a-kind (In America) ride, but can terrorize people unlike the Air Racers -- the whole family could participate in riding them. For a young child, flying in one of the devices was an exhilirating experience, and probably caused a boom in applications down the road at Delta. However, as I said, they are long gone and so are those fond memories of a different era in Six Flags Over Georgia's history. Even with the modern upgrade from Intamin, I can't help but miss the Air Racers, and now there is rumor that the park may take out the Gasp parachute tower. Its always a shame when a ride that is fairly popular gets taken out, especially at a park with a great deal of land This was one of the few rides I rode in my period of not riding steel looping coasters, it kept me wanteing to return to the park, and having it taken out may have helped me get back on rides like the Scorcher and the Ninja. Overall, an 8/10. It was easily a 9, if not a 10, for mea s a young child, but probably not so thrilling to a adult.

Sooo many missed defunct rides...

* Screamin' Demon at Kings Island - scary for all the wrong reasons... ie the fact that the entire loading platform was waaay up in the air, surrounded by rusty chainlink, and shook like nobody's business every time the train came into the station...

* Eli Ferris Wheel at Kings Island - just a classic, with a great view of...

* King Cobra at Kings Island - pretty groundbreaking coaster for its time, and always a lot of fun, with little shifts in trackage and a great double helix...

Favorite defunct ride.....that's hard - so I will name 2.

Mr. Toads Wild Ride - Ah, what a wonderful ride this was. This was back when I went to the park about 2 times a year. What would I want to do on those visits? Mr. Toad...the whole day. With a bathroom break in there somewhere. And maybe some french fries.

Kongfrontation - Sure I can still see him on the tram tour at USH, but the ride here was awesome. I can still remember crouching down in the car on my first ride, and I can still remember the banana breath.

Wow all day on the toad. I found toad to be funny but I don't really miss it.

I have a theory that disney should make a park with the old ride then after riding the old ride you ride the new updated version. Both rides same line. I know its not really possible, but I always thought that would be cool for 20000 leagues, toad and whatever else like take flight.

I think they should showcase the removed rides from the site. I rated the Air racers at SFOG. I really injoyed the ride.

Faverate Mr. Toads Wild ride. I think many people will say this. many people faght with little rispect from disney to save the ride.

Please explain how you can do that. they are no longer on this site. I do recale rating them when I was first on the site. I dont think I woudl have confused them with another plain ride since it was the only one lie it I have ever riden. I'm not trying to make anything up.

Two rides come to mind that I miss:
Like others, Mr. Toads Wild Ride-just a great little dark ride in Disney that is sorely missed.

Also sorry to see the double wheel at Hershey go. To me it's always been a symbol of the park and a fun ride as well.

Sorry it wasn't an actual review.

What about rides that are technically still there but have changed substantially?

I miss the original Journey into Imagination ride at Epcot. I don't particularly care for the changes that were made.

And, duh, how could I forget? Long live Horizons at Epcot!! You showed us future possibilities that, alas, will probably never come to be. You left us too soon, dear Horizons..

Horizons was amazing. I remember as a kid riding that, it was so cool. It really was interesting to see what could happen in the future.

Hey, let's not forget the ride that changed the coaster industry, Drachen Fire. Well, maybe that is something of an overstatement but I liked it so I am allowed to make outrageous claims.

The first day it was open, I stood in line for 3 hours. Watching it go around the track for that long only built up expectations. My mom thought I was nuts and kept coming back to see how I was doing. I finally got into the station and went straight to the back. When I got in those beautiful red cars with those black restraints, I knew I was in for a good ride. The ride ops said " Get ready for a ride on the red hot tail of the Drachen Fire". You went out of the station and banked hard to the left and down a little bit. You hit the lift hill and clinked on up. It was pretty tall at 157 feet. After you crested the top, you were sent into one of the most unique elements ever. A corkscrew right off the bat. You swung around it and picked up great speed as you headed left and into a camel back hump. Over the hump you were sent into an awesome new manuever they called a batwing, but is more commonly refered to as a cobra roll now. After that you banked up to the left and into some brakes, then down into a corkscrew. After that into an awesome banked helix u-turn that was right over the walking path. Then into another corkscrew, and then into a quick helix and up and around back into the station. It was a breathtaking ride with bright red trains riding on pretty light blue track. It was a beautiful ride that delivered. A few years later, they removed the first corkscrew. It got pretty rough. Then I started working on Drachen Fire( an awesome job BTW). I had a choice between Drachen Fire and Loch Ness Monster. Drachen Fire was the king(at the time). It got rougher and rougher and eventually was removed and destroyed. Rest in peace Drachen Fire.

I never got to ride Drachen Fire. I was there as a kid and rode LNM when it was new and then didn't get back to Busch Gardens until recently.

The ride I miss the most is Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. It was such a crazy dark ride that took you on an out of control ride with Mr. Toad. This is one of the best defunct dark rides of all time. Poo has nothing on Mr. Toad

Mr Toad and The origanal Jerney were rides that Disney should have never tuched. they had a good thing going and had to mess it up. I'm shore Disney coudl have figured out a place to fit that poo ride in the park.

I think 6 leagues could have stayed at MK, but it needed serious updating.

Yup - all of that stuff is underground. Very cool - I went on this educational tour of the underground lots and workshops when I was about 12 - it was really amazing, and I can't even imagine what it's like today. Disney's operations system is mind-blowing. However, leakage from the 20,000 Leagues lagoon would put a damper on things... you could even say that it was raining on their parade...

My review:

*The Mountain Flyer roller coaster, Mountain Park, Holyoke Massachusetts

This coaster sat at the base of Mt. Tom where Mountain Park was located from 1929 until it was taken down in 1991. It was a PTC coaster which featured NAD "Century Flyer" rolling stock. I made many rides on board this classic wooden coaster, the first when I was about 8 years old. In one afternoon, I think it was 1983 when I was 13, I rode it 36 times in a row. The Flyer was quite large, standing in the area of 80 or so feet at the highest point, and was a classic out-and-back. The ride's layout was this: You boarded the trains from a very art-deco style station. The operator pulled the very large break handle and out you went onto the course. A quick left turn and up the lift you went. At the very top of the hill, you were treated to not only the long structure of the coaster, which was similar in appearance to the "Screaming Eagle" at Six Flags Mid America, but to the hills of Western Mass and the skyline of Springfield Mass off in the distance.

The first drop was quite steep and fast, lifting you up off the bench seat in some great air-time. At the bottom of the first hill came a small slightly left banked speed bump, then the climb into the second hill, which was almost as tall as the first. After a second deep plunge all the way to the ground, the Flyer again climbed a third hill, again almost as tall as the first two. The third drop down, sent the train under several low hanging tree limbs, giving everybody quite a thrill. The train then climbed up steeply into a turnaround which dropped into a sharply banked left turn. Whereever you were seated in the train, you were slammed against the side of the cars in that turn...a perfect coaster to ride with a person you had a crush (no pun intended) on.

The home stretch was great! Once off the turnaround, the train sailed over three low level airtime hills, again lifting everybody off their seats, followed by four camel humps. A quick right turn sent the train back into the station where the operator leaned heavilly on the break lever bringing the Flyer's train to a halt.

This coaster was simply amazing and is a perfect example how a ride does not have to be 200 feet tall to give a great thrill. It's all in the layout! The flyer was and is sorely missed, however, Lake Compounce helped fill the void when the created the similar but larger Boulder Dash.

If the Mountain Flyer were listed on this site for reviews I would give it a solid "10"!!!

No, that is not the definition of a defunct ride A defunct ride is a ride that is no longer in operation that got torn down. A defunct ride is one that no longer exists. On this site, you can't review defunct rides, so what FLA8 said is partially right.

Oh, well instead of using the word "defunct" how about they use something more like "No longer exists!" to help people out.
