I just saw a mention of it today on the Coney Island website. I saw some posts from you there, I had never been to that site before. Only found it today when I googled El Dorado Bumper Cars. Someone on another site suggested that they had closed.

Also, the new mozzarella sticks they have could make a good compliment to the hot dogs.

Yep - that Coney Island message board is quite something... talk about some fiery arguments!

I haven't had the mozzarella sticks yet, Hercules - but you'd probably be pissed to know that I've taken a liking to their frog legs...

Incidentally, anybody else plan on being there for the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest on the 4th of July?

Them thangs are deeeeelish.

Edited for the purpose of grammatic correction:

Them thangs is deeeeelish.

Now... is anyone else coming to the Mermaid Parade, and subsequent bad ass ball busting ride with me and Nathan on the Zipper (brought on by harrassment of the carny ride op)?

unfortunately nyet on the mermaid parade.

i'm going to kentucky and indiana this week to ride some wood coasters, so i need to hold on to my doubloons and get some crap done around the homestead.

i'll be hangin' tough in brooklyn soon enough. but send my regards to thongs, tassles, and pasties.

btw, adriahna, awesome sig. i'm a grey gardens fan. the first time i saw it, i showed it to different friends for the next four consecutive nights! it's mind-boogling!

You know what's hilarious, traver - I haven't even seen it yet, but I'm completely obsessed with Edie Beale, anyhow. I figure once I've moved to the new digs, I'll treat myself with a copy, at long last.

Oh, and I hope you have a great time in IN and KY - tell us all about it afterwards.

The parade was INSANE this year - Nathan and I couldn't stop talking about how crowded the joint was. Mind-boggling amounts of people, barely a square foot to be found...

eeks. i'm sure it was awesome, but i presupposed that all of the media coverage and the nice weather would bring out the droves.

last year's gloom and precipitation kept all the casual goers home. thus myself, jackietraver and cyclonic got orchestra seats for the menagerie.

i plan to go down there later in the summer to do some heavy homework for this site.

Adriahna, nice to hear of the support for the Mermaid Day Parade. Sadly, that's probably an institution whose days are numbered once Coney Island gets the Times Square treatment.

Well, I have a strong feeling that Coney Island USA doesn't have a thing to worry about - if you get my meaning, the folks around these parts basically feel that "Mayor Zigun" is out solely for his own neck, and has a deal running with Thor to keep his shindig alive and well.

However, the rest of Coney is pretty much in doubt - I had the happy pleasure of meeting Carol Albert, of the family who owned Astroland prior to the sale of the property. Of course, I didn't ask her any questions regarding the family's decision to sell, but considering the low price at which they did, things just seem... fishy. Whatever the case, she and her friends seem like really cool ladies.

I have a feeling that the bumper crop of Parade participants, spectators, photographers and such had everything to do with this likely being the last season of Coney Island as we know it. I was amazed to see Mummers (Aqua, for those in the know) from Philadelphia, behind our group of Polar Bears while in the staging area - as Cyclonic said, they don't usually do events outside of their own parade unless paid to. But there they were, in full costumed glory, ready to play some good old string band music...

I got there at 10PM with coaster05 and the place was still crowded, 25 minute wait at Nathan's at 11PM with all registers open. Did some stuff at Deno's. I'm leaving for Astroland in 15 minutes to ride the Cyclone.

I've always wanted to go to Nathan's. My goal is to go there and Pink's sometime soon.

Was just at Nathan's tonight, after attending a "town meeting" (read snake-oil sales pitch) held by Thor. And, honest to God, I met Nathan Handwerker's grandson. You never know who you'll bump into on Coney Island...
