Review of Hypersonic XLC @ Kings Dominion

HYPERSONIC...HYPERSONIC...HYPERSONIC...

as you watch this thing take off you see thats it is F-A-S-T. but once you get on it you realize that 80 mph is faster than you could have imagined and 1.8 seconds is a shorter time span as well. i dont care how many launched coasters you have been on. Volcano, Flight of Fear, Hulk, Rock n Roller Coaster, Jokers Jinx, WHATEVER...not one of these can prepare you for the one and only XLC. the launch is literally breathtaking in every since of the word. not only does this thing have an INCREDIBLE launch, it also packs THE BEST airtime i have ever experienced on a single hill. it is an almost life changing moment as you are looking up at the sky, to suddenly lose sight of the car in front of you as you plummet back to earth at an incredible speed. another thing, when looking up at the ride crest the hill it seems to be a very slow transition between going up and down...then again, things are never as they seem. One last thing about XLC, the trains are more comfortable than any B&M has ever made, the chairs are almost like LA-Z-BOYS!!! the ride it self is also smooth as glass. the bottom line is, RUN, WALK, DRIVE, HITCH HIKE, BIKE, DRIVE, FLY...do anything to ride XLC you wont be disappointed

one last thing... B&M only wishes they could make coasters this smooth, its like riding on air!!!! ( technically i guess you are cuz your on inflated tires)

I agree with you 110% i have ridden Hypersonic 8 times (four in front, twice in second, twice in back). the front car is the best but in the back you get whipped over the top of the hill really fast. last night, (7-7-01) i rode it in front car at 10:00 at night. really nice

Have u guys ridden nitro? That thing is damn smooth. U also have to remember that this isnt a looping coaster...

ive ridden apollos chariot which is its younger brother. believe me sephiroth it feels like you are riding on air throughout the whole ride (technically you are, pneumatic tires) sephiroth, i had intentions of coming off pissed off about the shortness and lack of more elements, but the ride is awesome...better than anything else i have ridden

Have you guys heard about the super Hypersonic-Type ride (technical name Thrust air 2000) They are building in Japan? It will be much longer and faster than Hypersonic-106+Mph in 1.8seconds. But the ride is only going to be 171 feet tall-you must RIP over the top of that thing. It will also have tunnels and more airtime hills. What they need to do is build one that is 300 or more feet tall and have a hypercoaster-length layout that would be awesome. Probably wont have to wait too long to see it...

i know...what i wouldnt do to ride that thing. have you seen those trains? they have pigs on em! the thing abotu that one is. it starts off in a dark tunnel where there is just a little light poking out, you launch and the light rushes forward (sweet touch if you ask me) then hits a big radius over banked turn, so it prolly loses some speed but still its gotta fly over that hill. i cant wait til we get another here in the states. stan checketts said he could build em 400 ft tall if a park would supply the funds to do so...just imagine 0-120+ in 1.8 THEN over a hill 100 feet taallter than MF and a 90! degree angle.

400 Feet-120MPH-makes my head spin just thinking about it..From the accelleration, you would probably leave half your skin in the station from the gs...

I personally dont think TOO smooth is good. I want to be bumeped around a little. Nitro was almost TOO smooth. But it still rocked. Those rubber tires would be good for looping coasters, but not for hypers in my opinion. And as u can see they are capable for 400 ft drops and faster accelerations. I was simply pissed they lied to us, or me at least and still have no intentions to make the ride any longer (correct me if im wrong there). I was imagining a Thrust air Hulk or Medusa or anything...however its just an acel and a drop. O well...

i really doubt that they would would make one that would go to 120 mph in 1.8 seconds. the time would have to be just a bit longer. XLC pulls 4 Gs at launch and a person will pass out at something like 7Gs. to get the same number of Gs, it would have rto accelerate to that speed in six seconds
Stephen on 7/8/2001 1:00:17 PM said:
the texas tornado (i think is what it is) pulls 6.5 Gs so i think it would be possible to withstand it, and hypersonic pulls 3.7 if im not mistaken. also, if they reclined the seats a bit more some of the pressure would be taken off (i read that somewhere). and still Even if it was 7 Gs it would only be at 7 for under 2 seconds, so it wouldnt be too bad i dont think, i dont konw much about physics so i might be way off...
Stephen on 7/8/2001 1:03:46 PM said:
Oh...and dodonpa in japan (the new one that goes 0-107 in 1.8) will pull 3.2 gs (according to thrillride.com) during the the launch, so 120 definately wouldnt be 7 Gs

Who cares???? I want it to loop, turn, and go wild...it doest. I know the acel is wild, but I wish they would add MORE!!!!!
Stephen on 7/9/2001 9:22:50 AM said:
yeah i wish it had more too, but it definately doesnt leave you disappointed whe you ride it. i got on it in your mind-set sephiroth, thinking i was gonna not like it due to shortness adn lack of elements, and the ride blew me away. sure it was short and i wish there was more, but im just lucky to have the thing 20 minutes away from me...
also that dodonpa will have more than one drop and it has 5 tunnels and other things check it out at www.thrillride.com

and S&S has said many times that they dont want to do inversions

i hear that the japanese one has three towers, the first of which is 300 tall. PKD is also coming out with a new coaster for 2002, it is called the ricochet. from what ive heard it is like the wild mouse coaster at Busch Gardens and it has a 50 first drop.
Sephiroth7 on 9/9/2001 9:12:54 PM said:
inversion or not, they still said that this is just a prototype and A LOT MORE WOULD BE ADDED! Loops or not, I just wanted something more. I understand it has great accel. but too me its not really a rollercoaster. A rollercoaster does not last 30 seconds, a thrill ride does. I enjoy thrill rides, but I wished they made it a traditional rollercoaster after the huge launch...

About the smoothness, one reason is the suspension. Its really a high tech element, so is the whole coaster really. Look for it next time you ride it, they are small cylinders low on the cars.
