Uh oh, once again (along with Magic Mountains Psyclone) I am going to have to defend an apparently unanimously hated wooden coaster. Let me begin by saying that this is the first wooden coaster that I have not rated a 10, so the Grizzly is getting a "low" score from me. All I really ever hear about this coaster is that it has perhaps the worlds slowest turn-around after the first drop. The first drop, though, is pretty cool, as it is quite banked at the bottom, even though it doesnt really curve. It is true, there is then an incredibly slow turn. However, this provided a moment for me (being new to Great America) to really look around the park. You are provided with a pretty good view, and this coaster is set amongst the trees, so it is very peaceful. It is the rest of the ride where I disagree with previous posts. Everyone keeps saying this ride is rough. Rough? I am not giving this ride a 10 because it was so exceedingly tame. It was pretty slow and smooth and didnt have many major changes in elevation or turns. It is kind of what I would imagine a scenic railway feeling like. I took the opportunity to really enjoy this though. I love some brutality in a wooden coaster, but Ive been on some truly relentless woodies lately, so I kind of enjoyed the break. Grizzly joins a small group in the category of forceless, pleasant wooden coasters.
