Review of Goofys Barnstormer @ Magic Kingdom

Disney always seems to make the ordinary extraordinary with their rides. Well, while not extraordinary by any stretch of the imagination, with the Barnstormer Disney transformed a pedestrian junior coaster into a pretty memorable one with the added thrill of theming. Anchoring the Toontown section of the park, one can’t help but divert their attention to the kid-friendly coaster majestically soaring around. And as I stated earlier, the theming is just superior for a junior coaster like this highlighted by the “goofy” entrance and the cartoonish barn where the helix finale passes through.

Generally this has a 20 minute wait, though in my opinion it’s pretty long for a junior coaster like this and I’d rather spend my time elsewhere. But onto the ride, the seats are comfortable as usual and the line does move very quickly on this thanks to it being the only standard roller skater to utilize a two train operation.

The ride is essentially identical to every other roller skater- a short, but sweet ride. What the ride lacks in size and speed, it makes up for with the glass-smooth ride it provides and some surprisingly powerful forces for a junior coaster, especially in that memorable and well-executed final helix that flies through the ride’s iconic barn that’s even complete with chickens (a small touch, but one that definitely just adds to the ride’s atmosphere). On normal roller skaters that final helix is my favorite element anyway, but the added thrill of the near-miss collision just makes it that much better. Still, the ride is very short, the only real flaw with the design.

Of the two roller skaters I’ve been on so far (this one and Universal’s), this one is far superior thanks to the drastically better theming, highlighted by the barn. The ride usually merits a 20 minute wait, but personally I usually skip it simply because I’d rather spend my time on other attractions. Still, this is a great coaster for kids and adults who tag along won’t be in for an uncomfortable ride at all since it’s actually pretty fun.
