The Silverwood Central Railroad (Wild West Steam Train) is right up there with the wooden coasters as one of Silverwoods best attractions. No, it may not be as exhilerating as a coaster, but riding behind a steam locomotive is a experience that you just cant get anywhere. The train ride at Silverwood is quite long (about 30 min) and takes you outside the park itself into some beautiful woods. At some point the train gets held up by fake robbers, but this is much more tastefully done than the extrememly gaudy acts put on by some other tourist railroads. The engine was built by Porter Locomotive Works around 1915, and except for a little brass and bright paint here and there, it still looks pretty much the same as it always has. It has been converted from coal to oil firing, but is otherwise it operates just like it did when new almost 90 years ago. The coaches were built by Bob Harpur for Six Flags Astroworld, and were acquired by Silverwood when Astroword downsized their train operation.
