Average Wild Mouse with slight theming. The concept was great but delivery was not great.
After my first ride on The Dark Knight, I thought I had missed something. I had such a lackluster experience with zero airtime and no unique coaster add-ons. I rode several other times, every time front row, and there's just no substance. Sharp, brisk turns and an intimidating setting doesn't account for a great ride. First off, you have to wait in a prolonging line JUST to enter more rooms. After you wait in line, you're placed in a room with a five-minute Dark Knight scene that's like watching paint dry in comparison. Then after you exit the room, you wait in another line in which your face can be placed with a Joker mask. After waiting in those hot and prolonging lines, you finally aboard your coaster. As I sat, left side front row, I was ascending a very short lift hill. Furthermore, I was whipped around left from right (painfully I may add) with some unnecessary, airtime-free hills. And, it's indoors! Yeah, Great America, you have to try way harder. Go back to your roots and buy back Deja Vu. I never had a chance to ride it back in the day but I bet my marbles that was was your best ride.
The story building up to the ride was better than the ride itself. How could they install a "Mouse" style roller coaster for a powerful superhero like Batman. It's counter-intuitive to his bat-mojo and is a kick in the bat-cajones.
Although me expectations were not high for the actual coaster portion of this ride, I was still hoping for a cool experience with some good theming and/or thrills. Unfortunately, the intro movie is more exciting than the ride itself, which manages to actually be boring (almost less exciting than a standard, outdoor mouse, for reasons that remain a mystery), a quality that is fortunately missing from almost every other coaster I have been on. Great America definitely ".screwed the pooch". on this one...I would have rather they waited a couple of years and not given us anything new now, but rather saved for a larger addition in the future.
I was anticipating a wild mouse. I still managed to be dissapointed. I can only imagine what it must have been like for the people who didn't see the blueprint for the ride!
