Review of Silver Comet @ Martins Fantasy Island
1 Rating Posted by: x307 on 7/9/2005 11:27:00 AM
While I enjoyed this coaster, I thought it could have been so much more. It seems like an overgrown family coaster, rather than something that would bring in the thrill crowd. While that was probably the parks aim, it left me feeling a bit flat. The turns were the most intense part of the ride, and outside of the final turnaround before heading back to the station, there wasnt a lot of intensity there. Contrary to Mr. Funland, I thought the front provided a bit better of a ride, as there were a couple of pop-up air moments at the top of hills heading into turns with had me flinging up and laterally at the same time. Its also very smooth, which is a nice change for me, as pretty much every other woodie Ive ever been on has been rough as hell. All in all, this is a good ride, albeit quite short, but still good enough for an 8.

It probably could have done more (especially considering it flies into the brake run), but more costs money and judging by the park, Martins isnt exactly loaded.

While the front is still good, the back provides 8 moments of air while the front only has 5 or 6 moments, and only a couple of them are as good as the back to me. Oh man, I rode this thing too much to know the ride that well LOL

I also dont see this on the same level as Minebuster and worse than Wilde Beast... but thats just my opinion and I myself respect my homeparks wood more than I probably should too.

I think it was better than Minebuster, but only because that thing kills me every time I ride it, no matter where I sit. It, however, was not up there with Wilde Beast. I love that thing.

I have no problem with the 8 rating as an 8 is not bad. However, it is much more than an overgrown family coaster. The moments of air are great and the laterals are intense. Is is short, yes but I would rather have that than a coaster that is too long and loses intensity and power in the second half.

Agreed with larrygator... an 8 is not a bad (people tend to rate high... most considering 8 to be "average" when in fact, on a 1-10 scale 5 is actually "average"...) but this is not an "overgrown family coaster". Shorter than some, yes... but its a case of quality over quantity. Personally, were I to rank coasters, I would put this in my top 5 wood and top 10 coasters over all.
