Sad news out of Kennywood yesterday. The shelter than houses "The Whip" ride colapsed in a storm yesterday causing the injuries and death.

Kennywood officials said they knew of no other fatalities, but hours after the pavilion collapsed, rescue workers were still searching through it to make sure no one else was trapped.

Police dogs also were brought to the park, but as of early this morning, they had found no other trapped people.

Kennywood employees who would not give their names said the Whip is known as a "Code Red" area, where people can be directed for shelter in case of a storm.

Dang, I was there a couple months after that. I wondered why the shelter looked brand new! But they made no reference to those people.

i know this is years later, and im late on this, but the whip wasnt the only thing that caused those injuries. People were injured from all the debris flying around and everything.

I remember watching this on the news. I was sad because I loved the whip, and I was sad for the people on it.

The family of the one guest who died in this tragic incident 5 years ago has been awarded $1.2 million if someone is at fault. Now they are checking if someone is liable, or it was just a natural disaster (microburst). 50 others were injured in this accident along with that one death.
