Coaster Safety
Submitted By: mrceagle on 3/29/2002 11:11:00 AM
IAAPA has pasted an article on coaster safety. It gives a lot of statistics on how likely you are to get hurt compared to things like playing sports, riding a bike, etc. It mentioned that 99.99 percent of park goers arrive and leave unharmed.

Statistics show that roller coasters are quite safe. And behind the statistics are built-in safety features and armies of specially-trained technicians who spend their days making sure coasters are safe. Amusement facilities are designed to safely deliver enjoyment and fun to their guests, so it is especially difficult when a visit ends in mishap. Thus, operators and manufacturers work continuously to provide a safe and enjoyable visit for every guest, and a quick glance at the numbers attests to their success in meeting this commitment.

Funny im reading this today. Right near my schoo is a fair expo and one of the rollercoasters got stuck today...lol. It was a wild mouse type ride and one of the cars stopped at one during one of the turns high up in the air. The people were just stranded up there. I'm sure they didn't get hurt, but it's funny to see this article the same day I saw a coaster get stuck...

Yeah, but the article was talking about fixed-site amusement parks, not fairs.

It is a bit Ironic; yes the article was talking about fixed rides. The carnivals are half the problem. But when you live in New Hampshire and the school board wants to stop trips to parks for safety concerns. I hope they see articles like this. Government has always looked one sided on these sort of things.

I think amusement parks get a bad wrap when something bad actually does happen. It's kinda like flying. People fly all the time and 99.9999 percent of the time there is not aproblem, but when there is its a really bid issue.
