We will be going to Kennywood's Phantom Fright Nights. We have gone the past two years and for a park that is new this type of event or whatever you want to call it, you'd think they've been doing it forever. The park is all decked out with eerie lights, music, fog and spooks that roam the midways. Not all of the rides are open but all the important ones are They started with 3 haunted houses/mazes and one outdoor walk through. Last year they added another outdoor haunt and are adding another this year. It's well worth the $18.50 price.

We went to Halloween Horror Nights at IOA two years ago and never will we do that again. The place was so packed you could hardly walk and the lines for everything were at least 80 minutes, some as high as 160 minutes. Oh, and we went during the week thinking the lines would be shorter than on the weekends. If they were that long on a week night, I would hate to see them on a weekend.

We have been going to Cedar Point's Halloweekends for the past 3 years. They had 3 haunted houses/mazes, one maze for kids, and Fright Zone (the fill Frontier Trail with more fog than you can imagine and lights placed just right that you can't see anything in front of you with freaks roaming and scaring the crap out of people. Last year they added Werewolf Canyon, an outdoor walk through. The haunted mazes were good and we didn't get to do Werewolf Canyon last year because we picked the wrong weekend and the place was packed, although we heard it was short and lame. This year they are expanding Werewolf Canyon, changing one of the mazes to a different theme and adding another one. All the rides are open on Saturday and Sunday. Friday night has limited operations (the back half of the park is closed.)

Knoebels Phoenix Phall Phunfest is more of a finale to the season than a halloween event, but the Antique Car ride is fog-filled and decorated and there is usually a surprise somewhere around Twister (I don't want to give anything away.) This will be our 4th year attending PPP.

We were at SFGAdv last year, but other than decorations, nothing worth a special trip.

We also went to SFWoA's Fright Fest one year but didn't do any of the haunted attractions because they were an extra charge. We hope to get to Geauga Lake this year to see what their Haunt is like.

And that's what you get for waiting to long to go.

I have went each of the first 2 weeks over the last 2 years - hardly any lines went past 20min. If you wait to long, I have seen some lines head over the 200min mark - but that was it's first year at IoA. They have learned since, and I did not see a line last year top the 120min mark.

This year it's 2 parks, more haunted houses, more rides, less lines.

How do I know less lines? I believe they are selling the same amount of tickets per night as they did last year.

How would you say that it will be from October 16-19, and is it open on Mondays?

Go here for dates. While you are there click the circle thing under FAQ's to see patient files - they give hints and stuff of the haunted houses.

I will tell you right now, it's not open on Mondays. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday have it the most. But Thursdays have it too. I think Wednesday has it once in the month also...

I think it will be busy the 16th and 17th, but no 100min lines.

I think, that is.

I plan on staying in the resort anyway. From what I understand, I get free admission to both parks and the line-skipping pass if I book for 4 nights @130/night/person.

When we went two years ago, I believe the date was Thursday 10/17 and as I previously said it was packed, but only IOA was open. The kids in FL were also on a break that particular week in 2002 so the crowds were fairly good sized at Disney also. BGT was empty.

Notice I said that was also the first year it was at IoA. They have continued to open up more attractions to lessen the lines.

The only one I've ever been to is Six Flags Americas Fear Fest (I also visited Adventure Worlds and Wild Worlds Hallowscream, before the park became Six Flags)
Thing is, my other local park, Kings Dominion, just started doing Halloween events within the past couple years (they closed in early oct. before) so that's why I haven't made it there.
Hallowcream was so ****ing crowded that I couldn't stand it. Rides that had 5 minute waits during the summer had 1 hour waits. Suprisingly, Fear Feast wasn't anywhere near as bad. Short waits, lots of Fun. A funny halloween decoration that they had was a tombstone that said "Wild World"...
I wonder how many people have been around long enough to get that joke.

I liked Visionland's fear fest, it was better than SFOG's at least, though it was a bit corny, the scare zone was sweet.

I was thinking about going to Shocktoberfest when I heard about it, but I heard from a friend at a party this Saturday that it sucked last year. So, I'm going to The Bates Motel.

I'll also be hitting up the Fright Fests of Great Adventure and SFA along with Halloweekends at Dorney and PPP at Knoebels (but that doesn't really count as a scary thing of course )

I just went to cedar point and geauge lake's halloweekends. Both of them were great. There was no one at geauge lake on friday. My wife and I did the whole park and the haunted attractions in 4 hours. They had one of the best haunted house that I have been to. Its called phobia. Cedar point was great because it is cedar point. They had 3 haunted houses and 2 fright zones and a thing called werewolf canyon. Werewolf canyon the drain and take out the rafts of the rapids ride and you walk through it. There are a tons of live actors at both parks. Everyone who can should try both parks halloweekends.

Howl-O-Scream I hear is pretty good, but this years theme seems awfully familiar to some past Universal themes.

Then Cypress Gardens is having their own little thing, but I won't make it to that.

There is also Mickey's Not So Scarey Haloween Party. Haven't been to one in ages, and won't make it this year to that either.

I also just got back from CP's with Taylor. It was an excellent day and they had some excellent haunted attractions. I hope KW beats it by a mile though.

Hercules-
Have you been to the Bates Motel yet? We went last year and had a blast! I was completely blown away at how high tech the hayride was. Haunted house was pretty good too. We didn't do the corn maze. I'm tempted to go back again but I think we may try the halloween tours at Eastern State Pennitentary. I'll also be hitting the PPP and fright fests at SFGAdv and SFA. Have a good time!

I went to Fright Fest at Six Flags America this past Sunday and had a great time. We were only planning on doing 3 Halloween events but made it to two. The haunted train ride was way too long. Hall Manor had maybe a half hour wait and was very well done with some good effects and scares. Brutal Planet was amazing-very high tech and actors who I really have to give props to. It cost $5 to get in but was well worth it; it's a long walkthrough plus you get a free refillable mug that costs 4.99 anyway. I highly recommend it. The decorations were definitely more sparse than those at Six Flags Great Adventure but those that were there were very creepy. GAdv wins for lighting, fog and overall effect. But America's haunted attractions were much better.
