After the dissapointing kickoff of our trip, we were ready to pick up the fun. We headed out of our Allentown hotel early just in case we met some bad traffic in New York City and good thing we did because Staten Island was very backed up with traffic and easily ate up an extra hour on our estimated drive time. Oh well, we couldn't worry, after all we were in NYC. Well, I guess I could have worried. The rain had followed us from Thursday and the fog was absolutely amazing. It was so bad that I couldn't see the Statue of Liberty or any of Manhattan as we crossed the bridge from Staten Island into Brooklyn. That was a bummer but I still had Coney Island to look forward to.

We arrived at Coney Island at about 11:00. Both parks weren't open so we decided to pick up some breakfast. We walked passed the Shoot the Freak building to pick up some Nathan's hot dogs. I had two delicious cheese dogs and bacon and cheese fries. We then saw Cyclone(#88) running so we decided to get things going. Our first ride on this shaking old schooler was in the third row where the airtime was more than acceptional. We then moved up to the front seat for the visuals and than to the backseat for the beating of a lifetime. We decided to take a break and ride the Big Apple Coaster(#89). They gave us an unnecesary, but courteous, 5 rounds before stopping the train. We moved on to Deno's Wonder Wheel and of course, we had to start out with th Wonder Wheel. We picked one of the moving trains and I absolutely lost it! A ferris wheel is just not supposed to do that! After that we rode the Sea Serpent(#90) family coaster before heading back over to Astroland to ride the Cyclone a few more times. We took two more rides in the front seat of this awesome woodie and picked up some souvenirs before hitting the road for Lake Compunce.

Everything was moving just fine until we hit I-95, a stretch of highway from the Bronx all the way up into Connecticut. It was bumper to bumper, stop-go driving all the way and a stretch of highway that should have taken about 1.5 hours ended up taking 5 hours. Once we got off I-95, it was about 7 and the park closed at 9 so we were moving as fast as we possibly could. However, the rain had finally stopped and the crowds were all gone at Lake Compounce when we got to the park at 7:30. We headed directly to Wildcat(#91) which had no wait and we walked on a front seat ride to find out the Wildcat was shockingly smooth for such an old woodie. It also had bits of airtime. Well, it was time for Boulder Dash(#92). We waited one train for the front seat and were shocked. The speed, airtime, and dash through the woods easily launched Boulder Dash to my top woodie spot over The Legend at Holiday World. We then had personal rides on Zoomerang(#93) and the Kiddie Coaster(#94). It was about 8, so we figured Boulder Dash deserved the extra hour. We rode the front, back, all over and every ride was amazing. It was almost closing so we decided to pick up a few Boulder Dash things. This is where Lake Compounce's guest service really surprised me. It appeared that all gift shops were closed. My dad asked an important looking man if any gift shops were open as we were exiting. He personally escorted us to a gift shop only to find it had no Boulder Dash stuff. He then, understanding we came all the way from Columbus, re-opened a gift shop by Boulder Dash, walked us back there, and then let us have our own personal shopping spree. We picked up a few things and were very gracious and ready to leave. However, the cash register had been turned off, so the man walked us all the way back to the front to register the shirts there. We were shocked by the friendliness of the staff. But that is not the end of it. The register at the front couldn't ring up shirts. So the man went and got a manager to open a new program in the register just to ring up our shirts. Of course, all of this was done with smiles on thei

Woo Hoo - Staten Island made it's way onto a TR. Sorry about the traffic, but it's not my fault.

At least you made up for the hours in traffic with multiple rides on two great coasters.
