I'll be in NYC Thursday-Saturday and I'm hoping to make a quick stop at Astroland to ride the Cyclone. The official website says that they're only open weekends until mid June. Would Astroland be open this week?

Since I'm up here in NY and it's a local call I called the local number and they said the Cyclone is now open every day starting at noon (weather permitting). The rest of the park rides are not open.

Have a blast, 3r1c - and let us know what you think about the Cyclone. And, if they are by chance open, check out these three greats:

1) The Wonder Wheel - you can't miss it - it's in Deno's. Get a Swinging Car.
2) Spook-A-Rama - under the Wonder Wheel. A classic Pretzel Dark ride, beyond compare.
3) The B&B Carrousell - on Surf Avenue, across and to the left from the Cyclone. Very rare machine, with brass rings (a huge treat).

Right now things are really iffy, we know we're visting the Natural History Mueseum on Saturday and Trump Tower so if we did make it out to Brooklyn it'd be either Thursday or Friday, most likely Friday. Still, I'd love just to look at it - I've been fascinated with it ever since I saw it in my first roller coaster book back when I was, jeesh, 6.

Cyclone looks great. I've ridden two of the clones (Viper at SFGAm & Psyclone at SFMM), but I'm sure none of them can beat the original. Plus, the original has the single lap bar, no seat divider trains of a classic woodie.

I'm going to NYC this summer as well. I'll be sure to check those out

Danny when it gets closer to the trip ask some questions here from those who have been there. Coney Island is tricky as it's actually two parks next to each other, Astroland and Deno's plus a couple of other assorted rides that are not part of either park's. Also there a couple of other things to consider doing like Sideshow by the SeaShore, one of the few (if not the only) freak shows left, all even catching a Brooklyn Cyclone minor league baseball game.

Wow, I didn't realize that there was so much. I'm not going until August, so I'll post a Tips thread a little before then

Unfortunately we didn't even make it off Manhattan on Friday (the only day we had some free time). Instead of spending just an hour at Central Park and heading to Brooklyn we ended up staying the afternoon when we realized there was a zoo (very nice I must say) and then we made a quick visit to Trump Tower but it was still a blast. We're already planning a day trip to go to the Aquarium and Astroland by August. I'll get a ride on the Cyclone before the end of this season.

Sorry you couldn't get your ride as soon as you wanted 3r1c. I personally will be there in July and I can not wait until I can soak in the classic atmosphere of the Cyclone and Coney Island.
