For my Senior Class trip, the class of 2007 headed for Dorney Park. The last time I had been here was on our 6th Grade trip back in 2001, where I had rode my first roller coaster, Thunderhawk. I was still too timid to tackle the likes of Steel Force and Talon, and Hydra had not yet been built, so I was excited to finally ride these three steel monsters. Crowds seemed big at the beginning of the day (over an hour wait for Talon), but everyone must have headed for Wildwater Kingdom, because by the afternoon, the park seemed empty with harldy any wait for the rides. A late rain did make Lazer close just as we were about to get on, and the operators were extremely rude, so we decided not to head back to it. I managed to hit nearly every flat ride in the park during the day without a problem, with Revoltion and Meteor being the two stand-outs. The coasters:

Talon (9/10)

I've had some very intesting experiences on inverts. My first, Great Bear, was very unimpressive and I still cannot understand to this day why I don't like it very much. Raptor was incredible and is one of my favorite coasters of all time. Batman: The Ride at Six Flags New Orleans was intense, but way too short. Alpengiest had a fantastic layout with wonderful themeing, but was not nearly as intense as I had anticipated. Where would Talon fall? My first ride was in the third seat, and I was very impressed. The speed was great, the elements were relentless, and the layout was twisted and well done. My second ride was in the front row and was 10x better, as the front is on any invert. The pacing didn't let up either, as the mid-course break did not seem to be on at all. It was one of my best rides on steel coaster. My last ride of the day was in row two, and I was not very impressed. Talon is a great ride with a wonderful layout and great elements, but it is inconsistent.

Hydra: The Revenge (10/10)

Hydra was my first floorless coaster, and the most anticipated ride for me on this trip. The line was almost completely emptry, which was a theme for the rest of the day, so we stopped on our way to Steel Force. Wow. I was blown away. From the initial jojo roll to the last curve, Hydra did not let up. I could not find a single break and the relentless of elements and the pacing reminded me of Raptor. I was in love. We immediately re-rode, but this time I was not on an end. The ride was still great! Later on in the day we came back for a front seat ride. I was on the right side again like my first ride, and it was absolutley icredible. The ride seemed faster at this point in the day, and the front seat was unreal. I last hit Hydra right before we had to make the bus. This time I was in the second row on the left side, and it was still awesome. Hydra's intensity and consistency regardless of seating shot it immediately into my top ten. I can't wait to ride another floorless!!!

Steel Force (7/10)

Ah. Steel Force. The rage of Northeast Pennsylvania. After my one and only ride, I could not see what the rage was all about. The lift was very slow and provided a good build-up into the hanging before the first drop. The first drop was spectacular and steep. The second hill was great too, although I wish it hadn't slowed down so much. The helix was my favorite part and it provided great laterals, which would probably had been better had sat on the inside. After the helix, however, the ride lost me. It was very dull and unenventful, and I renamed it Steel Bore. It was very unimpressed and dissapointed, but gave it a 7 becuase of the good first half.
Rides: 1

Thunderhawk and Wild Mouse I had already ridden previously and were just as I had remembered them. I had a good day at Dorney Park, and it was a nice Senior Trip. I'm very happy with the addition of Hydra and was impressed with Talon. Steel Force/Bore, however, provided me with severe dissapoint and definitely was a downer for my day.

Nice trip report. Glad you had a great time. Like me, you enjoyed Talon and Hydra a lot. However, I got great rides on Steel Force when I went on it 2 years ago.
