Since I've only been on three launch coasters= V2 @ SFGAmer, California Sreamin and La Culebra in Mexico City(somewhat like Greeze Lightning) , I have to say that California Screamin has to be the best.

I think we'll see a new favorite when storm runner opens.

Actually Rita is only 68 ft. tall and only goes 61 mph.

Anyways, I rode the Robin side of Chiller a few weeks ago, and that refreshed my momory of how good it is. That launch is amazinig since it just keeps accelerating, and accelerating. And the lapbars are a nice touch too.

The Chiller has a great launch - or at least the Robin side, as I haven't been able to check out the former. But really, now - I may be speaking the obvious here, but Kingda Ka's launch is just astounding. I'll never forget my first ride on that one.

I've only been on 2 launch coasters - Islands of Adventure's Incredible Hulk & Hersheypark's Storm Runner. Since Incredible Hulk's launch's only for a few seconds, I'm not going to count it as being a launch coaster, so it goes to SR for being an all-around great ride despite its lack of elements & shortness. If only I could've rode CP's TTD. Until I ride TTD, hear's what I've gotta say about it:

I HATE TOP THRILL DRAGSTER B/C IT'S THE MOST UNRELIABLE COASTER EVER!!!

It is a darned shame. KK was down for a couple of hours while we were at GAdv, as well - the thrill is incomparable, but the technology is still full of bugs, it seems. I'm really hoping that this can be worked out, so as to at least cut down on the downtime, somewhat.

I haven't experienced Kingda Ka, but I have ridden its little brother in Ohio a time or two. It's fun, but I honestly found Chiller more intense overall, maybe because TTD felt so smooth and seamless, or maybe because so much happens in such a short time on Chiller. You're into the elements on Chiller in the blink of an eye, and the positive Gs and inversions make the return trip especially forceful and disorienting. After my first ride on TTD, hands up was no problem, but I still struggle to get through the Chiller without instinctively grabbing for the bar. I would probably say that TTD is more euphoric, while Chiller is more scary/intense ride after ride.

Good point. I'm curious to know, Timber - during TTD's launch, did you sense a surge in speed and power about 2/3rds through the runway? KK has this moment where it bears down and really increases in intensity - it's borderline blackout territory. I'm really interested to see if TTD has the same moment - my brother's been on both, and felt that KK stands alone in this element.

I have only been on the Rock "N" Roller Coaster. It was my first launched, and looping coaster. The launch is very intense and is a great ride. It is my 6th favorite steel coaster.

Adriahna, I don't recall noticing this on any of my previous TTD rides, but I'll see if I can confirm that next weekend when I'm at Cedar Point (whoop, whoop!).

The Chiller kicks ass, it's my second favorite launched coaster. Lap bars through zero-G rolls are hard to match, but in the end Storm Runner is a better (well, more complete) coaster overall.

adriahna, Dragster launches differently than Ka, I don't recall it having that extra "surge" as you called it.

Right, the two coasters launch much differently. That was one of the "improvements" that was implimented to Kingda Ka. Dragster's launch is one big burst at the beginning, whereas, Kingda Ka is launched with subsequent mini launches along the way to build it up to speed. That is where the extra "surging" comes in.

I prefered the smoother TTD launch especially further back in the train. With KK when I was in the beack of the train the secondary part of the launch was jerky

Thanks for clearing that up, you guys. I had heard that the back of KK was jerky, and so avoided it. In the front seat (which was WELL worth the wait), it's smooooooth. And powerful as all get out.

granted I only rode twice, once in the back and the second time in the back. The shaking on the second ride could have been an aberration, who knows!

Been on only 4 launchers, but Storm Runner definitely comes out on top. In my opinion, the launch was more intense than Hypersonic's and the elements that followed were taken at insane speeds...just an all-out wild and untamed ride
