So anyone see the news that the former Astroland site will become a flea market next season?

hm, i don'.t know, i might like a flea market. it really depends. there are flea markets in baltimore that are completely mind blowing.

seems like sitt is thinking short term recession-style solution.

Traver'.s right on the money. Sitt pulls this kind of short-term crap every time - the inflatable slide, the Hanneford circus, rent-gouged petting zoos/carnival rides/game stalls - everything he does is designed to be short-term (if not laden with pissed-off tenants who leave early thanks to realizing how much higher their rent is compared to what it ought to be) - he has an insatiable hunger for the ability to say, ".See - I told you amusements don'.t make any money!". That'.s all he is about - that little catch-phrase, which he falsely believes will sway the city into giving him the zoning change he is starving for.

Let the SOB starve, I say.

So his plan is to make the Coney Island so undesirable that they will have to do something drastic to get tourism back into the area.

I can'.t speak for the locals. But a Flea Market is the last thing I want to go to while on vacation. but with bargain stores and street vendors all over the cities who really needs a flea market.
