I want to visit a park this summer that has a stellar line up of old and new flats. I prefer more of the newer ones. Any suggestions. A few nice coasters would be nice. But I mainly want to try some of these flats I've been negleting for years.

Knoebels, without a doubt, has one of the best flat ride assortment all-time. You've got classic rides like Cosmotron, Skooters & the Antique Carousel to modern day thrillers like Power Surge, Downdraft, Merry Mixer, 1001 Nacht, Super Round-Up, Fandango, & more. You'll also enjoy their two classic coasters Phoenix & Twister in addition to the new Flying Turns coaster which should open by the end of May.

Sounds good I actually was just on the website looking at there collection I was blown away. And I live in new jersey about 2hrs and 50 mins away from knoebels so its not a bad drive. I think my decision has been made thanks for the input. I really wish my home park SFGadv would get there flat collection together. I shouldn't have to travel so far for some good flats. And the only coaster I have left to ride there is KK which I'm actually not breaking my kneck to ride! Thanks again!

You hit Knoebels and Astroland and you pretty much get a great variety of well run flats.

With Knoebels if you go next weekend (28th-29th) they have Buy One Get One Free Wristbands. I think it is $21 for two people for 6-7 hours. The best deal in all the land. Real details are on their site.

Knoebles is a great option for what your looking for. I would also stress Astroland and it's neighboring Coney island parks.

if you have any extra Time I encourage you to Come up to NH. Canobie lake park might have what you're looking for. Classic rides like the Crazy cups, Caterpillar (with working canopy), Antique carousel(with band organ). You'll find modern rides like Frisbee, Skater, Turkish Twist(rotor)and Round up. They have arguably the most Beautiful flying carousel, Deviance's Dream. The park also have a great water ride selection and The Yankee cannonball Roller coaster.

I would have to agree that Knoebels has the best flats.

Knoebels is a great vote. I also really like the ones at Adventureland in Iowa. Indiana Beach runs theirs with a good cycle.

^I have to agree with Indiana Beach, great cycles (never been to Iowa though).

ruffryder - Although these parks might be a little far they are certainly worth it if you ever take a long road trip from NJ.

Of the parks i've been to, Kennywood and King's Island have the best flats. CF parks have good collections, and SF always varied, but Mom&Pop parks always have the best flats. The main reason I picked KI is for Delirium.

Of course, If I went backt CP, now that they have maXiar and Skyhwak, it would be up there too.

Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk dosn't have anything unique, aside for the carousel and the Dipper, but they have the largest, most well-preserved, carnival-style flat ride collection I can think of. The cycles are long, and the lines are short!

If you want to ride flats that can rival roller coasters in terms of excitement and intensity...Astroland and Coney Island is the place to go.

My picks, Knoebels, Indiana Beach, Rye Playland and Morey's all have great selections. Your best bet is Knoebels, mostly well run (except the Whipper, it is far too slow, and 1001 Nachts sucks) and it is priced right.

Astroland has a smaller selection of flats, but they are all well run. They are also pricey to ride.

Chain parks (Cedar Fair, Six Flags) tend to have decent selections but they are almost always run in the tamest mode possible. Smaller parks tend to run faster rides, with some even driven. I already miss that driven Top Scan at LI Adventureland.

For me my favorite flat ride parks are;
1. Knoebels
2. Rye Playland
3. Canobie Lake Park

After visiting Six Flags New England, that's my new favorite flat ride park. They have Scream, Catapult, Twister, Nightwing, Time Warp, Double Trouble, Tomahawk, and the Tea Cups which are all amazing rides and most of them thrillers. Six Flags New England doesn't have a good selection of classic rides though.

Or Family rides. and there Kiddie ride selection is mostly repeats of themselves. By the way Scream is a tower ride. not a flat ride.

I consider tower rides as flat rides though.

I know, especially about Catapult and Double Trouble. Still, Six Flags still does have plenty of other flats that still are very good.

I'll Stick with Canobie. Only Flat at SFNE I really miss is Twister and it hasn't run with a good program in a while.

The last two times I have visited Six Flags, Twister has been running its most intense program. From what I have observed, they run the tame program during the day and the more intense program at night.

From what I have heard from people that go many times is they have be running a 1 flip program. after hearing a number of Complaints they are upping it to the 3 inversion program. no were near the most intense program.

But outside of that I could care less about the other Flats. Nightwing is fun but often down and Enterprise at LC is more comfortable. Tea cups are good but I rarely ride them. there Flats are at least for me nothing to write home about. SFNE does have some worth while flats but just as many that are by far the worst I have been on.

Nightwing has had some down time when I've visited, but for the most part it has been open. I honestly prefer Nightwing over Enterprise because of the fun and comfort (I slid a lot last time I rode Lake Compounce's Enterprise).

That can happen but I personally don't have much of a problem with moving a bit. I lean back a bit more and don't move at all. Since I haven't been there over last season have they been able to quicken their load times.

Nightwing's load times were horrible. Both times I rode it loading took 10 minutes and I have seen it take longer too. It was so bad last time I skipped it even though it's a very fun and cool ride.

That's worse then the last time I actually got to ride it. My load times were around 6-8 minutes normally. bad but not 10 minutes bad. Though Joker often took longer then 10 minutes to load.

I'm not suprised about Joker's Wildcard because Canobie is pretty quick at loading their rides and Wipeout takes quite a bit of time to load.
