SFFT is certainly an overlooked park. It really doesn't feel like a SF park. I didn't hit any shows when I was there, but the food was very good. Extremely courteous staff and customers. The feeling of being in the middle of a quarry is unique and both S:UF and The Rattler are enhanced by the use of the quarry walls. They also nice a good selection of flats that run on long cycles. Just avoid the spin and pukes if you had a couple of Shiner Bock beverages the night before.

Add another vote for Lake Compounce. While it is not a giant park, it has alot of history....after all it is the oldest running park in the country (1846). Like what Ibluv said, the flats are basic, but they have been there for ages and serve their purpose. While many people look for newer and faster, some people like to actually be able to walk through a Midway not overtaken by street gangs or have to wait for hours to ride a coaster. Try getting aboard Superman Ride of Steel at SFNE on any given day of the week without having to wait at least 40 minutes.

As for thrill rides, "The Lake" as we up here call it, has been steadilly adding new rides over the last 8 years or so....and now can boast having a small but excellent line up of coasters.
Expect a new roller coaster there within 3 years. New flats are being added as well as expansions to the water park.

But while the park has been building up the thrill rides, it hs not lost its' family friendly atmosphere and small park feel. The staff is always friendly and seem to enjoy working in the park, the place is clean, well shaded, and beautifully landscaped. And best of all, even on very busy days, the ride lines move quickly, and a dress code is enforced at all times (yes this is a big factor to me when advertising a family friendly and comfortable atmosphere.)

And best of all.....drinks are free all day! Drink as much soda as you want!!!

Adventureland in Iowa. It was very affordable, very clean and an overall great surprise. The coasters are not anything special but they have really good flats and the customer service was just awesome. I would really recommend anyone to visit especially if they are looking for full park experience as opposed to just thrills.

Hey Rich, forget about telling us about Iowa. Let's hear about Avalanche and Hades. Or at least Avalanche since Hades is still not open for reviews

Someone mentioned SFFT as being a Six Flags Park that manages to avoid the usual Six Flags stereotypes. I haven't been there, but it seems like SFOG is a similar style park that is better than most SF parks. They have a well-rounded coaster collection - invert, flyer, standup, stidown looper, wodden, etc. The park looks like a good one and I've heard that they will be getting another big steel coaster soon.

one other plus for SFFT is that the people of San Antonio are some of the most friendly people I have met in my travels around this country. When you have friendly clientele and workers the park experience is better.

Larry I am still 4 days away from Avalanche and Hades. Those coasters will be better but no way does their park top Adventureland.

One things that helps SFOG, SFAW and SFFT is they were set up to be these mind blowing parks with allot of themeing and a mini disney world.

remember for $8.95 you can get the night time wristband for Riverview Park and get three coaster credits, including two kiddies. Their other coaster, a Galaxi coaster actually looks really neat at night with its' lights. The park also has a tilt-a-whirl, house of glass, two go-kart tracks that are included in the wristbend, a Moby Dick and one or two other flats I don't recall.

We may go but I am not sure it depends what we find to do. Did you go to riverview? I went to Como today but I couldn't make myself pay for their kiddie ride.

I went to Riverview, since it was only $8.95. The Midwest trip cost me so much, I said what the heck for another 9 bucks. I also was holding out hope that these 3 coasters could help me hit 300 by the end of 2005, but that's not happening. Pretty funny because when I left Wisconsin Dells I still had 3 wristbands on my arms.

I would say Knotts Berry Farm. Overlooked amongst the Disney, Six Flags, Universal congested area but a very formidable opponent. Ghost Rider is the best damn Woodie in the country not to mention the monster that is Perilous Plunge (biggest, steepest flume in the country!), oldies but goodies like Montezumas. Great park!

for me it's hard to see this park at underrated. it's attendance is well over a million, its one a number of awaords, ther coasters get national attention. and the product name is well spred around the country.

If I had to chose a Ca park that seemed underated I would go with Bonfonte Gardens a nmber of themed rides tucked into a large batanical garden.

I can see where Knott's would seem to be underrated - like viking said, it tends to get lost in the shuffle with SFMM, Disneyland, and Universal Hollywood all in the same area. And add Xcelerator and Silver Bullet to viking's list of solid Knott's coasters too.

Not to mention a solid rides list, Shows, and food. They are at the top of the game.

Other than the fact that KBF has some tough competition with SFMM, Disneyland, & USH, its location's also another problem for why its attendance's not as sky high as the aftermentioned parks.

What the hell are you talking about?? KBF is easy to see from the freeway and easily accessible, It's not a bad location.

Knott's beat Magic Mountain in attendance. The other SoCal parks like Disney, SeaWorld and Universal are on a different level.

My bad ya'll for the bad info. It's just that I thought I heard someone say a long time ago that getting to Knott's Berry Farm was kinda difficult because of its location. Also, I forgot how high KBF's attendance was anyway. I guess I should redo some of my roller coaster research. I'm starting to slip up & I promise ya'll that I'll be back to my own coaster-minded self.

Thing is there are so many people living in that area any thing has an upper hand. Other then the small fantasy park that's shuting down everything in the area gets really high attendance. Knotts low prices this year will likely jump there atendance even higher.

I feel Geauga Lake is the most underrated amusement park. Since Cedar Fair has bought the park they have done alot to the park. I hope people will come out and visit this park this year and in the years to follow. It has 10 very good coasters and a very nice water park and the admission price is very reasonable.
