Not everyone can say they have a "favorite" coaster, But everyone has a first. When I went to BGW this past weekend, I remembered my school field trip when I first rode the Loch Ness Monster. That was over 20 years ago. I decided to make her my warm up first ride of the day. Its amazing how great a ride Nessie still is after being open for over 25 years. That ride will always have a place in my heart.

I wonder what stories you folks have about your favorite classic coaster. Lets narrow it down to pre-Magnum XL-200 rides.

My first coaster was The Comet at Hersheypark. I can't remember if I was 5 or 6. I was so unbelievably scared. I was holding onto the lapbar so tight and my head was right down there with it, so that going over the last little run of bunny hills I got my mouth smacked against the restraints. It was one of the biggest fat lips I ever had. I was kind of proud of it and proud of myself for not crying. Man that was a long time ago.

The most "classic" coaster would undoubtedly be the Cyclone at Coney Island. It's everything NYC. It may be old and look like toothpicks, but it still delivers one hell of a ride that takes you back to another era. The nostalgia looking down at the boardwalk is unrivaled in the coaster world. Its cool hearing stories from relatives about how they would ride the Cyclone when they were kids growing up in Brooklyn. Now that's classic.

Well, technically, my first coaster was the Big Dipper at Kiddyland her in Chicagoland, but my first real coaster that I can remember would be the Whizzer @ SFGAm, followed by the Viper at the same park.

My first "real" coaster was the Thunderbolt at SFNE. I really enjoyed it. I also went on the Cyclone that same day, but that's another story.

Yo, my first and forever favorite coaster is and will always be Phoenix. I went when i was i think 9 and it scared the hell out of me. i got off and threw up cause of all the airtime, my stomach hurt. then, about 2 years later, i went on again, and, since this time, i was expecting, the airtime, i fell in love. it was soooo cool.

My first roller coaster was Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom. If I remember correctly, I was in Kindergarden. It was the thrill of a lifetime for me. My first major roller coaster was Dueling Dragons- Ice.

I despised Drachen Fire. Worst ride EVER! Period! I think I have mild brain damage from having my head cut off by those restraints...An aweful experience.

I thought it was fun. Even with the mild head banging. But I respect your opinion.

My first two coasters I rode were Big Dipper at GL and Blue Streak at CP. Of course, my very first was Jr. Gemini, but that doesn't really count.

Big Dipper is also the most enjoyable coaster I have ridden, and is also a classic seeing as it was built in 1926.

My first coaster was a Double Figure 8 Zierer. It was at Bensons and now operates at Santa's Village. The coaster has always beena faverate of mine and remains one of my faverite family rides.

Drachen Fire was #3 on my coaster list before it closed own. I think my first coaster was BTMR at the Magic Kingdom. As for a classic, definitly Jack Rabbit at Clementon Park. I live right down the street and rode it a gillion times. Too bad it is closed also.

Sky Princess at Dutch Wonderland. I know it's at a kiddy park, but I was like 8 yrs. old when I went there. From what I remembered I was scared to death of riding it. My dad finally convinced me to go on it. After riding it, it wasn't even close to being as scary as I've made it out to be. Nice family woody with some good airtime, a double helix, a tunnel, & a nice turnaround back to the station. I got a snow globe at the gift shop afterwards & I still have it through this day. That was my last memory of my 1st woody.

You people like annoying me with your Drachen Fire praise, don't you? I keep trying to figure out which ride you people actually rode as opposed to what you think you rode.

My bad. I forgot the pre-Magnum XL-200 rides part. Mine would have to be Comet then. I rode it with my two cousins visiting from Philadelphia. I was so nervous about getting on it. After I went on it, I thought it was kinda fun. I still make Comet the 1st ride to go on when I'm visiting Hersheypark.

I rode drachn fire. I found the ride fantastic and it was my #2 coaster behind Cyclone ar Riverside(pre SFI rap). The ride was amazing and no worst then my home parks Corkscrew.

anyways anther clasic coaster that alwas ranks high on my list was Viper at SFOG.

I am sure that the original B&M design was probably flawless. Fact is, when B&M pulled out of the project, Arrow was unable to create several of the features in the original design. In order to make a complete circuit, they had to improvise. Keep in mind Arrow was handed a design and was asked to run with it. BGW was probably expecting to not have to pay Arrow to redesign the whole ride from scratch, so a compromise had to be made. What transpired was a ride that was unique primarily because it had too many cooks stirring the broth.

I know all about the fact that B&M was the designer and that Arro took over the project. the fact that arow used prefabricated inversions so to speak. same size and layout and jsut found ways to fit them in caused allot fo the prpblems.

If the origanal B&M disign was likle fantastic but unfortunaly they jsut wern't able to do it at the time. maybe they sill have a copey of the designa d wee will see it again.

My first coaster ever was Magnum @ CP. Pretty impressive, huh? Yeah, I still remember that day in the summer of '97, it was my first visit to CP also. Good memories.

As for the oldest/classic, I would have to say Big Dipper at Geauga Lake the next summer. I was more terrified of this than my eyes-closed ride on Magnum the previous year. I still consider BD the coaster that got me hooked.

No, but good satire requires a layer of truth.
