The Little Dipper is a sttel sit down roller coaster. It was built by Herschell in 1968. It is 12' tall, 280' long. It is fast, fun, rerideable, it has a large capacity, and a long duration.
Im going to give this coaster a very low rating and Ill explain why. This coaster is intended for kids and I believe I rode it as a kid, but there are still better junior and kids coasters out there. Not only this, but the ride ops for this ride in particular are almost always extremely rude and wont let you ride if youre over 7 years old or so. I convinced the young lady to let me ride since I wasnt sure if I had ridden it before or not, but it doesnt stick it in the mounds of little coasters Ive been on and I think Ive been on similar designs at Dorney and other parks as well. Get a train full of adults and I might change my mind.
Im giving this ride a rather special rating ... BETTER Kiddie coasters have been made, in fact much better with THE BEASTIE and RUNAWAY RAPTOR not too far down the road from this ride. But when you think of the age of this ride and its intention as solely a KIDDIE coaster (rather than a family coaster), its really the best of its kind. I remember riding this as a small child, what this ride is intended for, and having as much fun on it then as I do on THE BEAST now. At that, theres actually a little bit of good G forces for a child to feel ... as an adult its negligable, but as a kid its there. It may not look like much since Dragon coasters, RUNAWAY RAPTOR, and the ever proliferation of famiyl coasters ... but for the simple steel out-and-back style that was the only option for this rides time, this is one of the best ever.
