It is not a woodie that just grabs me like some other woodies do. It deserves just a fair rating.

Although I found SFKK to be subpar even for a Six Flags park, the one pleasant surprise was Thunder Run. For a small woodie it really does give a great ride. Simple design and layout, but a whole lot of fun. The key to the ride is the airtime. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th hills all have great airtime that is sustained for several seconds. All of the bunny hills are good. Even SFKK couldnt mess up this ride - hopefully they maintain it well because as of now it is quite smooth. Thunder Run is a good woodie that is often overlooked, and is one of the most underrated coasters Ive ridden.

Times ridden: 2 ~ Ride experience: 9 ~ Layout: 8 ~ Appearance: 7 ~ Thrill factor: medium ~ Airtime: medium->high ~ Reride factor: high ~ Evaluation: Thunder Run is one of the most surprising coasters Ive experienced. Knowing Six Flags and how they upkeep their wooden roller coasters, I was hoping this ride wouldnt be too brutal, but WOW! This thing was smoother than some steel coasters Ive ridden. The layout is very simple and easy to navigate for those whove never ridden Thunder Run before. Themed to moon shine and the prohibition, Thunder Run sends its riders on a half-mile treck of large hills and quick turns. Thunder Run is an exceptional wooden coaster that shouldnt be missed by those seeking a fun-filled, thrilling coaster experience at Kentucky Kingdom.

I think this is an exceptional woodie with lots of air time and an unique layout. The ride is a lot of fun, and while not the most intense coaster, it has some great moments. There are two things about the coaster that prevents me from giving it a 9, which is the rating I would like to give it. One are the seat belts, which are a pain to get fastened. You have to fasten them on your side, and since the seats are rather small, there is very little room for you to get them fastened. If you are even somewhat large, you may find that while you can sit in the seats, you may not be able to get the belts fastened and you will be unable to ride. I see this happen all the time. Even among those who can get the seat belts fastened, it takes them forever, and it makes the ride have a terrible capacity. The slow loading of the trains is the second criticism! These things prevent me from giving it a 9, but this is still a classic wooden coaster.

This was my favorite ride at Kentucky Kingdom. It was really fast and you got a lot of airtime no matter where you sit. I rode it a couple times it was awesome everytime.

OK the audio they play as you wait on the queue says "the #1 most terrifying coaster in the world" Now I just had to laugh even though I had not ridden it yet. The ride was better than I expected with a couple of good moments of air, but certainly not a terrifying coaster. Actually this is a fairly smooth woodie and the first drop into an overbanked turn at the bottom of the hill was a unique start.

A better than average woodie. The first drop to the turn by the water park is great, and the second half has some great air. I guess the park knows they will never bother to run two trains, since they dont even have a second train.

For its age, still one of the best woodies in the states!

Although its fairly short, the hill is awesome. It leans into a banked curve circling around the loading area. Great effect and it adds more feelings of speed. The lines usually arent long either, which is a plus.

A good little woody. I love the drop straight into the curve, that is great. A little short in time and in height.
