Though the least favorite of the 3 hypers Ive been on to date, Steel Force still is one of my favorite coasters. Towering over Dorney, Steel Force certainly looks intimidating with its parabolic hills and steep drops. Well, it was my first hyper and needless to say I was a bit frightened at first of riding. Thankfully, I decided to give this a go and Im certainly glad I did. First and foremost, Steel Force is a capacity machine. Dorney runs 3 trains on this and each train seats 36 riders! Combine that with lightning fast loading and this coaster was a walk-on for all of my rides. The lift hill provided great views of the whole park and the first drop gave great ejector air, as did the second hill. Following that was a pretty good turnaround that had some pretty strong Gs and that was followed by a great drop of the brake run that gave really good ejector air as well. Finally, all of the return legs bunny hills gave great air as well in any seat.

this is a good but not great ride. i wanna know how this has more track than nitro if nitro does more things and is taller. When i went on this ride the first hill wasnt all that good the second hill was corny, but the best part of this ride is the bunny hills and the tunnels

Steel Force is by no means a bad coaster, just disappointing. This is quite possibly the most overrated coaster out there. How this thing was rated #4 in the world by the Golden Ticket awards is just beyond me. Out of all the hypers Ive ridden, SF is probably my least favorite. These first generation Morgan coasters just cannot compare to others Ive ridden like Millennium Force, Nitro, and SROS. The coaster is big at 200 and very long. There is plenty of floater air on all of the hills, especially the bunny hills after the break run. The first hill is far from intimidating though. The angle is not very steep and the tunnel at the bottom is pretty poorly done, just a steel tube. Another thing - where is the ejector air? I love the feeling of being lifted out of your seat as you hit the top of the hill, and this coaster offered none. The bottom line is that Steel Force is a solid coaster, but in my opinion it lies in the lower tier of hypercoasters. It was built in 1997 as the first hyper on the East Coast, but since has been surpassed. The big clunky Morgan trains just dont give the same ride as the sideless B+M trains or the Intamin hypers. This coaster is certainly worth riding because its a hypercoaster. Its just overrated.

I was very disappointed with this ride, unfortunately. From what Ive read, its an amazing hyper with great air and a fun and intense helix. Well, I personally felt little or no airtime throughout the ride. At the bottom of each hill, there was a jarring sensation that really hurt my back, and the helix was taken a slow rate and wasnt all that intense. I was shocked at the rave reviews it had received. It wasnt even able to make it into my Top 10, which REALLY doesnt say much for the ride

UPDATE 2006

I will upgrade my rating to an 8 after a decent ride on this thing a week ago. This time around there seemed to be more airtime than I remembered, but still nowhere near what should be expected on a hyper coaster. The MCBR just punches in so hard...very disappointing still

Simply amazing. This coaster is huge and yet its very simple in its elements. Two nice tunnels as well. The most exciting part is going up, after that its pure speed. Overall a great ride.

One of the first of many hypercoasters and IMO still the best. I am a fan of hypercoasters and Id have to say this edges out some of the newer versions like Appolos Chariot, Nitro, even Goliath. Theres just something special about this ride that makes it the king over its competitors. My top 10, you betcha!

Steel Force ran like a dream. THe front seat is the best, it getss lots of aritme and goes quite smoothly. Man, that first drop was great! You hang right at the crest of the hill before plumiting into a tunnel. Morgan Manufacturing has a way with hyper coasters.8)

Steel Force was a very good hypercoaster. The ride, which reminded me a lot of Magnum without the thrashing, was a ton of fun 8) The lift hill is long and the anticipation builds approaching the top. Then you are sent screaming down towards the earth near 70mph into a tight, dark tunnel. The next series of hills are pretty good for air, though not spectacular. Eventually, the ride enters the helix, which is by far the best element on the ride. As the coaster gains speed and subsequent momentum steaming through the helix, the G-forces just keep building and almost approach Scwarzkopf standards. Though it looks wide and uninteresting in photos (at least thats what I was expecting), it really is an awesome helix. The hills going back are pretty nice, including the nice drop out of the brakes. The last little dip, which is over the path and right before the final brake run, was awesome in the back seat as you were sent careening into the stratosphere. Overall, with three rides under my belt, I feel safe to say that Morgan did a pretty good job with Steel Force, and would reccomend that people ride it in the back.

A great roller coaster. The lift hill rules, getting just enough anxiousness out of you, until wham!! And once you get going, you dont stop. It is a great ride, and the first time Ive experienced airtime on a steel coaster. Great stuff.

After my two rides on Steel Force last night, I decided to change my viewpoint on it. I guess that I was a lil bit spoiled from last year going to Dorney Park after visiting IOA, USF, BGT, & CP. My second ride in the backseats what really changed my mind about SF. The airtime back theres so crazy & abundant that anyone who rides back there will barely be staying in their seat for a while. The helix at the ends also pretty intense & a lot of fun. You can also really feel the 4-5 airtime hills just plummeting you out of your seat & the double-up manuever adds a very nice touch to it too. I still believe that the MCBs should be removed & itd easily get a 10. Also, the layouts too basic, but still effective. Itll never be better than Magnum XL-200 or Phantoms Revenge, but Steel Force, for now, barely makes my Top 10 List just because of my last ride during the day. I still recommend people to ride Steel Force since its the tallest, fastest, & longest roller coaster at Dorney Park. Talons still the best coaster at DP though, but Steel Forces 2nd best & thats not bad at all.
