Terrible. I have ridden over one hundred coasters and this is one of the worse. The restraints are uncomfortable in the groin area. The ride also caused my feet and lower legs to feel numb. The only B&M coaster that I wanted to exit early. Like all stand-up coasters, it is slow loader. The only plus it has is that it looks good, especially at night.

I rode this for the first time on Sept. 3rd this year. It was an hour and 15 min wait and I was in the very front row, which is the best place for a standup. I really liked Mantis, I dont know why it gets some really bad reviews sometimes. I liked it better than Raptor, actually (but I was not in the front row for Raptor). Mantis is awesome at the beginning but gets a little less thrilling on the second half of the ride. Overall, I think its a fun coaster that deserves more praise than it gets.

This ride begins with such potential! The first drop was great, the vertical loop was great, the dive loop was amazing, the overbank was a nice touch, and even the inclined loop was cool. Everything was smooth and forceful...just a great beginning to a mediocre ride. The second half of Mantis killed the entire experience...no no, let me rephrase that...brutally tortured the experience. If SLCs are considered "hang-n-bangs" then Mantis is a "stand-n-bang." My ears burned for at least 20 minutes after riding this coaster, and all of the head-banging took place after the MCBR amidst all of those sinister twists and turns. Still, the ride deserves a 7 for the great first half...

It was my first stand-up coaster, so thats an extra point. The seat design is relatively new to me. An adjustable bicycle seat basically. Now...about the ride. The first drop is actually not as good as it looks. Even if the brakes arent used often, it wasnt too special. The loop was plain and huge, and the dive loop was my favorite part because of the fear of insecurity. After the spiral turn came my first incline loop which was actually not too bad really. Then, thankfully, comes the brake run. Everything after that was pure pain. If there were no brakes there, I dont think Id be here right now. A few painful fits later, I was back at the station. After all that, I just had to give it an 8. The layout is rather classy and compact. I like that kind of layout. Well, it was fun, but I still get the feeling that Im glad I only rode it once.

I really do love B&M coasters, and it pains me to give one such a low rating, but Mantis deserves it. Actually, I found the seats to be really comfortable, and going up the lift standing up was pretty cool. Then comes the best part of the ride- the drop! Ive never been on a standup before so I didnt know what to expect, but WOW that drop was amazing. After a few years of "roller coasting" my stomach has become somewhat immune to the "butterfly" feeling, but not on Mantis! You really feel every last one of those 4 gs (I think?) on the drop! Then comes the next best part- the vertical loop. Being upside down while standing up is really something else, and that loop was so smooth and fun, and even doubles as a nice drop too! However, the ride is all downhill after that. All I remember after the loop is being banged around mercilessly through each inversion, especially the corkscrews. I never expected such roughness from a B&M coaster! By no means is the pain unbearable, like Great Adventures Viper, so dont hesitate to ride it if youve never been on it before. But I certainly wouldnt ride it twice in the same day. The lines are also pretty long due to the nature of the seats and the loading times, but the staff really does try their best to load the trains quickly, so it doesnt affect the rating- just letting you all know in case youre considering riding it.

This ride could be better. First off the drop could be great except for a break right in the middle of it. Thats so dumb. The loop I feel is the best part, ur feet actually come of the ground. The dive loop and other inversions are great. Its just this coaster has some very quick and therefore rough directional changes. I dont see why it couldnt be smoother and the changes more gradual. The layout is packed and interesting but this coaster could be much better.

I never thought Id see the day I give a B&M coaster such a low rating. I like, if not love, all of their installations. Well, now I have to say "almost all." The Mantis opens with a straight 130 foot drop. Next you enter a massive vertical loop that offers some gs, but nothing too intense. The dive loop is pretty smooth then you rise up and swoop back down for the inclined loop. Thats where things go wrong. The rest of the ride there was this pressure in my legs and feet that was pretty painful. Add to that some pretty substantial headbang on turns and in the last inversion (corkscrew). And basically for the last two-thirds of the ride I was just waiting for it to end. A feeling Ive never had on a B&M coaster. Even the older B&Ms and the standups like GA Scorcher and Vortex didnt beat me up or leave me with such a negative impression. Maybe a different seat wouldve offered a better ride, but this was by far my worst experience on a B&M. Luckily Scorcher and Chang make the case for fun standup coasters. Because after you feel that pain in your legs you wonder why they dont just through some sitdown trains on that track. The look of the ride, location, and the relatively fun opening third save Mantis from an inconceivable 3. Final Rating - 4.0 (Below Average)

Mantis is good and twisted, but I rode Batman: The Escape at SFAW, and I loved it way better than Mantis. Mantis is fast, but rough and for some reason, my foot started to hurt. The restraints are...confining? The seats are...uncomfortable. I dont like that. But, the ride is okay.

This ride has excitement and pain. First the exciting part. This ride has great timing between elements while still being surprising. The loops are unique which make them a great experience, except for the vertical loop that didnt do much for me. Another thing I like about it is the way it sounds. It has a roaring sound as it whizzes by that adds to its fear factor. Now the pain. Coming down from the first hill, the G-forces are experienced through your knees and ankles instead of your spine and butt like on a sit down coaster. Well, it does hurt. But you quickly forget about that pain when your head rattles against the restraint. My ears were red for an hour. Despite the pain, this ride is very worthwhile, probably just not twice in a row.

It has become my favorite standup coaster.
