There are still a few rides from SFGAs opening year, and this is one of them. My little brother loves this ride, so I usually ride with him. I, myself, enjoy this for some reason. The layout is somewhat simple. Its two spirals and some fairly small drops. Its not uncomfortable the way I ride it, but its mild, and something the whole family can enjoy.
This ride is pretty fun. But you WILL get a little banged up.Also, on that last hill before the turn over the water, there is painful ejector air that hurts your legs. This ride always has a ridiculously long line, too. But its a good, old classic and was the parks first steel coaster.
If a park has a mine train, for some quirky reason I have to ride it. Well, Great Adventure had a mine train and I should have known I was in for a let-down. The first thing I noticed were the nice locomotive trains, which is always a plus. The loading was slow. Sure, it isnt a triple-lift mine train, but to stack it still boggles my mind. The lead ride op was a bit of a you-know-what, and the whole cross your legs thing, while smart, wastes time. The ride iteself was ok. The first part (the turns) was nice, but after that, it just got rough and painful, especially for big, tall Bob Fun. I wouldnt say to skip the ride completely, but if the line extends off of the station platform, I would think twice if I were you.
A great mine train, you have to love the train curving over the water.
Any ride that forces a 510" 180 pound man to be asked to cross his legs for maximum room while sitting in the car, automatically gets docked some points. This ride was running one train, the first time that I rode it, because they were referbishing the other train. Even with that said, these ride operators have stolen the "Slowest ride ops in the park" award from Rolling Thunder. Congratulations. Im sure they are proud. A 15 minutes wait turned into a 45 minute wait because they were so slow. I dont know if it is the rides fault or theirs. The trains are uncomfortable, small, and very ugly. Next, the ride is very short. It started off surprisingly well. It gained a lot of speed in the beginning and I enjoyed the turnaround around the water. However, with a couple of bad transitions and such a cramped ride, this deserves no longer than a 10 minute wait. When I say bad transitions I mean noticable parts in the ride where the builders of this ride should have been able to look at the ride and be like "Hmmmm, maybe that steel shouldnt be like that." Anyway, could be good for kids as a first coaster (they would also find it pretty easy to fit in the seats too) but nothing more than that. I would rather wait 2 hours for Nitro than waste my time with this. The new trains cant come soon enough.
Definitly a classic. One of the first roller coasters Id ever been on. I can remember not being tall enough to ride. I dont know when they added the "mine" to the name, I always thought it was just called "The Runaway Train". The best part is when you swoop the lake. Frontier Town definitly has the coolest themeing, and the Runaway Train, Log Flume, and Tee-Pee definitly define it.
Rough, and not enjoyable for tall people. It takes forever to load and unload.
actually not a bad mine ride and i am now trying to write a review that does not totally get spoiled by the rotten mood im in. the ride is running two trains but i honestly(no joke) beleive it would run faster with only one. it took so long to load this. the only thing comparable is the lost coaster at indiana beach, but that is because it such a crazy set up. this is just normal. fom the time i set down till when i got off it was over 7 minutes and i was one of the quicker ones. after this i was done. i wanted to ride more but i couldnt imagine any more lines. chiller is finally running one side but after seeing their lines i believe it would have taken 2 hours to ride it so i just called it a day. im sure someday ill go back but i will never prioritize a trip based on this park again. at least i added some coasters and got a cool jacket. i actually left a park at five and wasnt sad about it. i also knew that i would be at hershey the next day and all this dissapointment will leave. i have to say sfgadv is the most dissapointing (not worst park) experience i have ever had.
This was the first steel coaster at SFGA, and it should be the first to be taken down. Very boring and slow.
