You experience the racing/dueling effect better on lightning. A great ride with Smooth twisting drops and one instance of good airtime in the tunnel. Add great trains a, really nice station, and relatively short waiting times and you have one hell of a woody.

The Lightning Racer is a wood racer roller coaster. It was built by GCI. It was designed by Mike Boodley, Clair Hain in the year 2000. It is 92' tall, 3,400' long. It is fast, fun ,rerideable, it has a large capacity, and a long duration.

My second favorite woodie next to only the great Twister at Knoebels. Two trains lightning and thunder are dueling and they start out with a slightly staggered climb up the lift hill. Then both trains descend the 90 foot, curving drop, and then all hell breaks lose. Twists, turns, near misses, and a drop into a waterfall covered tunnel. I always prefer lightning more than thunder because it seems faster, and you get more airtime. Also, lightning always seems to win whenever I ride. I always ride three times at my annual trip to Hershey, and each one is better than the last!

So much fun!! Definatly, without a doubt, the best ride at Hershey. Although it lacked some airtime, it still was a fast ride and was very smooth. Love how its racing/dueling, too. Dont miss out on this!!

Lightning Racer begins with a superb first drop and awesome beginning, with arguably one of the best (and suprising) tunnels. A banked turn to the left is next, which is a nice suprise. However, after that, Lightning Racer loses its steam. There is a bunny hop which produces a bit of airtime, and a slow turnaround near the lift is followed by the dueling aspect of the ride, which is boring as the ride isnt going as fast as it was. However, there is a wicked double up at the end of the ride.

Lightning Racer is the best wooden coaster Ive been on. The hills and thrills never stop on this one. I perfer Lightning over Thunder because it seems much faster. Its nice how they duel and race at the same time. I always get the feeling that at some point the trains will crash into each other. Its a great ride that shouldnt be missed if you go to Hersheypark.

The best wooden coaster i have ever been on. This ride is so incredible, from the comfortable leather seating to the amazing flybys with the other train. And the fact that you are actually racing for the finich line is so cool. The best place to sit on this ride is in the front because it is open so you can see the track in front of you. Probobly one of the coolest parts of the ride is when you dive under the waterfall into the tunnel. If you go to hershey this is a must ride. And there are usually no long lines because they are running so many trains on it.

This is a classic for now and future generations. It gets its "10" for the wonderful train designs that help make this an incredibly smooth ride. It gets a "10" for possibly the most beautiful wooden track layout in existence. And, it gets a "10" for a ride that is furious, relentless, and comfortable. Exhilarating is the best way to describe it.

Cool! My favorite part is when both trains dive into the waterfall covered tunnel. This coaster is amazing to look at from above when going up the lift hill. The seperate tracks actually wind in and out and over and under each other. As for the ride I would say it was missing something. Maybe I wasnt focusing hard enough on trying to win.
